The reactions to this post confirm that Sleeping Dogs has the cult following it deserves, one of my favorite video games of all time.

I was there, rode nonstop from Chicago in a van full of anarchists. By the time we drove back, one of them was facing felony charges for possession of a gas mask.

My health insurance company is now spamming me with texts and calls from an LLM bot, dear god make it all stop
Two text messages reading

"Hi, this is Sophie, your AI Care Advisor from MVP Health Care. Please expect a call in the next few minutes from this number."

And

"Hi this is Sophie from MVP Health Care. Sorry I missed you. I'll try again soon. Feel free to call us back at this number at your earliest convenience. Thank you!"

I thought Valdez would be fine but yeah, I couldn't wrap my mind around Darializa actually winning. Time to tap the "be as radical as reality itself" sign again I guess

The people of Minneapolis have done so much this decade to demonstrate that they're awesome, but there are still those committed to telling the world that we do, in fact, have people who suck ass there too

Like the whole "there was a thumb on the scale" bit that everyone quotes is literally about how much he tried to both-sides the ICE murders in Minneapolis to make the the government look better but it wasn't enough for the bosses and now he's very mad about it

I actually watched this and Pelley comes off as such an ideologically lobotomized moron. He welcomed Ellison buying the company! Gave Weiss the benefit of the doubt! Did his best to portray Alex Pretti as No Angel! The vibe is "I licked the boot so hard but it still kicked me in the face omg no!!!"

This is why my approach to Kristol and the like is not to hand it to him in any way or welcome him to "our side", but just to point and laugh as he gets the war he always wanted only for it to immediately go wrong in the dumbest way possible

We live in amazing times. Today, the most advanced LLMs could not produce this sentence--but after training on the full archive of the Trump administration, they will.

Communists like to talk about revolutionary defeatism, but I've been trying to sell my comrades on *reformist* defeatism, the idea that even the mild mannered social democrats here benefit from Iran imposing a humiliating defeat on the US military.

This is the kind of thing I worry about with politicians like Platner, not the hyperbolic freakouts about him being Fetterman 2.0 or secret Hitler or whatever. Just the run of the mill bad policy you can get from eclectic left candidates without a strong grounding in organization and ideology.

I think a lot of this is downstream of trying to please two constituencies with very different priorities: the voters and the donors. This is a problem for all politicians in a capitalist democracy, but it's particularly intense for mainstream Democrats.

Strategy and Leverage—Not Vibes—Are What We Need Now
The general strike remains a goal to aspire to. But simply saying the words over and over again will not call the strike into being.

Thoughtful piece on questions of co-governance that NYC-DSA is navigating in relation to Z. @peterfrase.com is both candid and charitable about the viewpoints of the competing factions within NYC's chapter. The result is a piece that exemplifies the kind of revolutionary honesty he advocates.

Funniest reaction on this website specifically is the people who hate Piker for weird Zionist/liberal imperialist reasons, but also hate Charen for being a transphobe, and so end up stuck with "why hasn't the Bulwark denounced Graham Platner" as their go to take

Though the more accurate analysis is that for most of these people--certainly this is true of Hanania--IQ is just a placeholder for "whatever metric makes it so that white people are better"

Peter Frase @peterfrase.com · 31/03/2026
This kind of nonsense creates a paradox for me, because I don't believe in general intelligence as a concept, but whenever someone unironically treats IQ as a measure of it I want to call them stupid

My dad, a legal academic, loves to tell the story of some law & economics goon he saw give a talk about how there can't be systemic racism because it's economically irrational. To which his response as a decent enough white guy who grew up in Virginia in the 1950s was more or less "lol, lmao even".

To be fair to ol' conehead here, he's spent most of his life as what Marxists would call the bearer or personification of the capital relation, the vessel through which money flows and returns back to itself as accumulation, M-C-M'. Easy to lose all sense of one's humanity under such conditions.

When I was spinning up speculations about a post-capitalist rentier economy, I didn't have the vision to think of human consciousness itself being enclosed, commodified and sold back to us as a monthly subscription. Mostly because that doesn't even make sense as a science fiction conceit, but still.
