Then we fired ballistic missiles. Their helicopters didn't even get off the ground. Like, literally they're scrap now.
After that Ali Al Salem base. We lit up the base commander's quarters and the drone hangars. Ceiling became floor. It's an open-air bedroom now.
And THEN. Al Dhafra and Al Minhad. Their radars saw our drones coming. Then their radars stopped seeing anything.

I was on to Gillibrand in 2010. www.salon.com/2010/04/26/s...
New Yorkers expect their senators to be heavyweights, like Bobby Kennedy, Jacob Javits, Pat Moynihan, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer. Gillibrand clearly isn’t that, at least in the voters’ eyes. A one-term, moderate upstate congresswoman before Gov. David Paterson picked her to replace Clinton, she’s had massive assistance from her mentor Schumer, from many of Clinton’s ex-staffers, and from the Obama White House, which strong-armed several eager top-tier Democratic challengers out of her way.

Despite these advantages, Gillibrand’s brief performance in office has been mocked and criticized, and her ratings are stalled. She is winning only by default. A bizarre near-challenge from former Tennessee congressman (and occasional New Yorker) Harold Ford and an even more far-fetched trial balloon from billionaire Daily News publisher Mort Zuckerman only served to showcase her vulnerability.

DSA comrades! Please vote to endorse in NY08 and to endorse @chiosse.bsky.social by 10pm! See more at link below.
Much of the case against Ossé running hinges on doubts about whether he can actually win, since Jeffries is popular in his district. There are several ways to assess whether it’s feasible. DSA is, foremost, a ground organization. DSA looks at New York’s 8th and asks, ‘Okay, where are the votes going to come from to beat Jeffries? How are we going to pull those voters?’

I’m a pollster, so my perspective is different. I ask, what messages can most effectively drive down Hakeem Jeffries’ job approval rating with Democratic primary voters in his district, which is really the key metric that governs whether an incumbent is going to be reelected? According to one poll, Jeffries has a job approval rating of 70%.

I treat that number as changeable. What story do we tell so that voters decide Jeffries should be replaced? What will change people’s impressions of him? Do we need to tell the stories of people in Gaza, and show how Hakeem Jeffries is connected to the atrocities that we’ve seen in the last two years?

Because to me, the genocide is a turnkey issue. There have been some good analyses of District 8, including a very thorough one by Michael Lange. But I think even he doesn’t gives full weight to how much the genocide has truly transformed the political environment in many places, especially in Black communities, other communities of color, and for young voters.

I hope the DSA endorsement for Ossé goes through. Beating Hakeem Jeffries is really an existential need. If the House flips and Jeffries retains his seat and becomes Speaker, it will significantly set the Democrats back 30 years. His style of leadership is a complete mismatch to the moment we’re in, and he’s very much captured by the Zionists. He has often been the number one or two recipient of AIPAC-related money among Democrats in Congress.

But the immediate thing was the sign painted on the office wall, the same sign he had read earlier today on first entering. Somehow, the sign had changed:

Sefaris tu any yeer en the past.
Yu naim the animall. Wee taekyuthair.

Eckels felt himself fallinto a chair. He fumbled crazily at the thick slime on his boots. He held up a clod of dirt, trembling,"No, it can't be. Not a little thing like that, No!" Embedded in the mud, glistening green and gold and black,
"Not a little thing like that! Not a butterfly!" cried Eckels. It fell to the floor, an exquisite thing, a small thing that could upset balances and knock down a line of small dominoes and then big dominoes and then gigantic dominoes, all down the years across Time. Eckels's mind whirled. It couldn't change things. Killing one butterfly couldn't be that important! Could it?
His face was cold. His mouth trembled, asking: "Who- who won the presidential election yesterday?"
The man behind the desk laughed. "You joking? You know very well. Deutscher, of course! Who else? Not that fool weakling Keith. We got an iron man now, a man with guts!" The official stopped. What's wrong?"
Eckels moaned. He dropped to his knees. He scrabbled at the golden butterfly with shaking fingers. "Can't we," he pleaded to the world, to himself, to the officials, to the Machine, "'can't we take it back, can't we make it alive again? Can't we start over?

Did you miss this account of Bob's unforgettable set at Woodstock?
Woodstock Music Festival
17h.

Bob Dylan's performance at Woodstock in 1969
was one of the most highly anticipated and
talked-about moments of the festival, though it
was somewhat overshadowed by the chaotic
nature of the event. Dylan, who had become a
prominent voice of the 1960s counterculture with
his folk and protest songs, had recently retreated
from the public eye. His appearance at
Woodstock was seen as a significant moment, a
way for him to re-engage with his audience after az
period of relative silence.

However, Dylan's performance Woodstock was
not without its complications. Due to scheduling
conflicts and his reluctance to be heavily
associated with the festival's countercultural
chaos, he and his band, The Band, ended up
performing on the festival's final day, August 18,
1969, which was a day marked by rain and
exhaustion. Despite the logistical challenges and
the rain-soaked crowd, Dylan's set was a powerful
return to the stage, showcasing his distinctive
voice and musical style.

The setlist included classics like "The Weight,'"|
Shall Be Released," and "Like a Rolling Stone."
While the performance didn't receive the same
level of acclaim or attention as some of the
festival's other iconic moments, it was a notable
moment in Dylan's career. His return was a
reminder of his influential role in music and
culture, even as he maintained a certain distance
from the overtly countercultural aspects of
Woodstock. The performance was a poignant
bridge between Dylan's past impact on the folk
scene and his future in rock and roll.

Leave aside that these results don't justify how the NYT cited them (but that was a feature, not a bug: the idea is to justify Silicon Valley billionaire-friendly interpretations of the election). What's wrong with pairwise choices? Both tested messages in any pair can suck.
Reason To Not Choose Kamala Harris
Relative Importance:
linflation was too high under the Biden-Harris administration
Too many immigrants illegally crossed the border under the Biden-Harris administration
Kamala Harris is focused more on cultural issues like transgender issues rather than helping the middle class
The debt rose too much under the Biden-Harris administration
Kamala Harris is too similar to Joe Biden
Kamala Harris would let in too many immigrants
Kamala Harris never should have been the Democratic nominee
Democrats did a bad job running the country
Kamala Harris is too liberal
Kamala Harris is too inexperienced
Democrats are too liberal
Kamala Harris wouldn't stand up to America's enemies
Job growth was too weak under the Biden-Harris administration
Kamala Harris was not a serious candidate for president
Kamala Harris is too close to the political establishment and DC swamp
Kamala Harris did not run a good campaign for president
Kamala Harris is too soft on crime
Democrats are bad at running the places they control
Kamala Harris would raise taxes on the middle class
Kamala Harris is too pro-Palestine
Kamala Harris would allow abortions in too many circumstances
Democrats supported coronavirus lockdowns
Kamala Harris is too pro-lsrael
Kamala Harris is too conservative
Kamala Harris isn't similar enough to Joe Biden

But I should be more clear↑. This above group of purported swing voters is NOT whose opinions they report—only the ones who voted for Trump, and who they claim decided late. Now see their survey design. Instead of rating each Harris complaint separately, voters were given pairs of messages.
November 8, 2024
KEY FINDINGS:
1.The top reasons voters gave for not supporting Harris were that inflation was too high +24), too many immigrants crossed the border (+23), and that Harris was too focused or cultural issues rather than helping the middle class (+17).
2. Other high-testing reasons were that the debt rose too much under the Biden-Harris Administration (+13), and that Harris would be too similar to Joe Biden (+12).
3. These concerns were similar across all demographic groups, including among Black and Latino voters, who both selected inflation as their top problem with Harris. For swing voters who eventually chose Trump, cultural issues ranked slightly higher than inflation (+28 and -+23, respectively).
1. The lowest-ranked concerns were that Harris wasn't similar enough to Biden (-24), was too conservative (-23), and was too pro-Israel (-22).
Today, Blueprint released the first data-based report about why voters cast their vote the way they did with a new poll conducted in the days after Election Day and weighted to the 2024 election results.
Respondents were presented with random pairs of potential reasons to vote against Harris and asked to select which reason they found more compelling. Each participant evaluatec four pairs drawn from a pool of 25 distinct criticisms. The strength of each criticism was measured by how frequently it was chosen when presented as part of a pair. The relative importance is how much more it was selected than the average criticism. For stance, the most popular crititism, "nflation was too nign under the Biden-Harris Administration,'' was selected 74% of the time, so it has a relative im portance of +24, while the least popular "Kamala Harris isn't similar enough to Joe Biden," was selected 26% of the time, so has a relative importance of -24.
This methodology allows us to efficiently rank the relative persuasiveness of different criticisms while minimizing survey fatigue and response bias:
the results paint a clear pictur…
