Trumps Unexpected Move Could Pave the Way for His Own Lockup
In the heart of Washington, D.C., a group of veterans has taken a stand against an ambitious project proposed by President Donald Trump: an imposing triumphal arch to honor himself. The veterans are holding banners in Memorial Circle, arguing that the arch, which would tower over twice the height of the Lincoln Memorial, would desecrate the sanctity of a site dedicated to national reconciliation and the memories of those who sacrificed their lives in battle.

Revealed The Secret That Could Lead To Trumps Removal From Office
The internal dynamics of President Donald Trump's administration could be the most critical factor in determining his political future, according to a recent commentary by columnist Molly Jong-Fast. She argues that the peer-like structure within the White House may pose a greater threat to Trump’s presidency than external issues such as international conflicts or economic crises. In a guest essay for The New York Times, Jong-Fast compares Trump's administration to a high school experience dominated by superficial popularity contests rather than substantive governance.

I'm not holding my breath, not least because the author of the worst of these polices, Yvette Cooper, is still in government, and her successor in the Home Office, Shabana Mahmood, has defended and extended her draconian anti-protest measures. And yes, these measures really are mad and bad.

Maybe we'll now discover that it is not mad and bad to want to stop weapons being shipped to Israel, which will be used to assist mass murder. Maybe we'll now hear that it's not mad and bad to hold a placard saying "I support Palestine Action". Maybe we'll discover we are not terrorists after all.

Maybe this will change. We should hope for it and press for it. But at least, or so I believe, we now have a Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary who don't seem to want the world to become an even crueller, harsher, more dangerous place than it is already. And that's a welcome shift.

Tom Tugendhat in Sunday Times insists on leaving the ECHR to tackle “soaring” immigration. What a miserable rat. Lying to us all. Betraying our country’s best interests. Threatening to flounce out of our human rights framework, trashing our treaties and torching our protection from abuses of power.
The Tories are planning to make the ECHR a dividing line at the next election. Last week the party announced plans to deport every foreign criminal, apart from those convicted of the most trivial offences, and said their plan for ECHR withdrawal meant only the Conservatives were equipped to take on the problem of soaring immigration. One of the problems withdrawal would create is a legal dispute over whether it breaches the Good Friday agreement, which committed the UK to fully incorporate the ECHR into Northern Ireland's justice system. Tugendhat said the issue had not yet been raised in his conversations with lawmakers in the US, adding:
"There's a lot of work to be done."

And apologies… as has been correctly pointed out… £4- to £7bn is the cost to the Treasury, not the economy… where the cost is far higher, and should include the opportunities lost also… The relentless drumbeat to cut immigration has become a ruinous and dangerous national madness.

The Times - which has v much joined in the rightwing clamour to reduce immigration - now reporting that Mahmood’s “success” has cost the economy £4- to £7Bn. Would they like to now honestly confirm that fewer people = less spending power for all. There’s a high price to pay for this nasty obsession.
Patrick Maguire
Chief Political Commentator Oliver Wright Policy Editor

Falling migration numbers could cost the chancellor as much as £7bn in fiscal headroom as he writes his first budget, The Times has been told.
Government insiders believe that John Healey, who already faced an uphill battle to balance the books next month, is likely to have an even bigger challenge after immigration undershot projections from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
The Institute for Fiscal Studies think tank estimated last month that the success of Shabana
Mahmood's
reforms, which have cut net migration to the low hundreds of thousands, could cost Healey some £4bn.
