Perfect time to read some Jim Thompson or Ken Bruen. Unsteady and mentally vague makes them even better.

I have read everything of Pelecanos, his earlier books were better than most of the later ones. Didn't like Owning Up.

@ianrankin1.bsky.social Hi Mr Rankin, just finished Saints of the Shadow Bible. Enjoyed it as always, huge Rebus fan. Is this a book where you tested a different approach to Rebus, just felt he was a bit less sure of himself. Getting older, slower, a little more on the edge. Thank you 😊

Must admit to feeling pretty devastated with the news. Hap and Leonard have been with me since 1994 so a long-term literary friendship.

@kurtbusiek.bsky.social Hi Mr Busiek, does a writer and artist on a title need to get along to be successful? Or they can create a good title without any amiability? Thanks 😊

Have read all of his books except that one (will be soon). Love the Bosch character, but ambivalent about the rest, not a fan of the Lincoln Lawyer at all. Excellent writing although his dialogue can be a little abrupt at times.

@christophcondon.bsky.social Hi Mr Condon, binged News from the Fallout last night. Very interesting concept and the art was moody. Enjoyed it 👍

It is in boxing as well. We see Mike Tyson, Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fighting exhibition bouts in thrir late 40's to late 50's. Sad stuff. Promoters make money though....

Love these kind of stories and art. Reminds me of your All-Star Squadron work so many years ago when I was young.

Are either paper relatively centralist or more slanted left or right?

To this fan's perspective, this seems a way to have more first issues produced, it is hard to keep up with all the different titles and dilutes the character by stopping and starting series while keeping the same creative team. I know there is method to the madness but...

That is a kick in the guts. He was a great writer who wrote some really good books. Ken Bruen last year was bad enough but now James Sallis. 😞

Where I worked you got the best pension at 54 years, 11 months. If you didn't leave then, you had 7 years before the pension got to the same level again. For me, 48 was great, early pension and a payout as well. Happy times. Writing is a way better occupation though.

Yep, only one so far. 🤣 I wholeheartedly recommend early retirement if you can get a lifetime pension.

We know that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are the top three DC characters (maybe the top 3 in all comics). Who is 4th at DC? Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow?

@kurtbusiek.bsky.social Hi Kurt, are there lines that don't need to be crossed in fiction? I have read 2 books this week by well-known writers, in one a baby is shot dead while in the other the baddies are currently cutting people's body parts off in order to get information. Too much? I think so.

Have you tried James Lee Burke? Always a solid read.

The problem with Green Arrow is that readers just don't get him. You have shown as did Mike Grell on his run years ago that GA can be dark, gritty, topical and with the right artists, one of the best characters in comics but it is not to be. 😞

Somebody with the firing power must have seen the slumping sales but maybe wasn't a comics person so blamed creative rather than the editor. Maybe Julie blamed the writers and artists to management as well, pointed the finger at sales at others than himself.

@ianrankin1.bsky.social Hi Ian, just reading The Complaints and there are the occasional comments in it about there being issues in Scotland with the economy etc. This was 2009, is it better today?
100
peterdee.bsky.social @peterdee.bsky.social · 12/08/2025
True. It would take a very dedicated fan to start reading Fantastic Four today and say that they need to go back to 1963 and read every issue so that they know the characters. Good writers can and do make comics great starting off points for readers.

@ryannorth.ca Hi Mr North, Ben Grimm wanting to turn back into The Thing makes no sense to me. He has been trying to be normal for years, and now he doesn't? Love your stories but confused with this one.

@ianrankin1.bsky.social Hi Mr Rankin, finished Exit Music last night. Great as always. I did wonder if the ending could have been a great end for the Rebus stories...leave us all wondering about his future and relationship with Big Ger.

They both might be more corporate focussed but Marvel Comics The Untold Story by Sean Howe or Slugfest by Reed Tucker may be ok.

Everyone is looking to have a fight online over everything these days. Moore has his own opinions, that is fine by me. Each to their own.
