The ragebaiter-in-chief says: "Let them take out LA, let them take out San Diego, it's a small price to pay" and the crowd cheers. I don't understand his base. He did not imply that would be a price for humanity's continued existence - would any other context be ok? www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

Watch Trump on Iran: 'Let them take out LA, let them take out San Diego'
The White House said Trump was warning of the risk a nuclear Iran with his comments at a Nebraska rally.

This is an important read for everybody. Once the hype is gone from the media, that's when it will be even more important because horrid things like #rape will not disappear magically, unless we start doing something about them. Let's >start< with 1. acknowledging it happens 2. not accepting it

is the possibility that an experimental, "upgraded" strain of pneumonic plague might have been leaked. This would be extremely deadly, but at the same time should be fairly containable and the chance for this to turn into a pandemic catastrophy is extremely small.
000
Peter Barabas @peterbarabas.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The Russians dabbled in weaponising the plague (among other deadly diseases) to make them useful bioweapons and the pneumonic plague's shorter time to kill is a desirable aspect for a weapon (because you can, in theory target an area better). So what make people in the know worried about this

The tech visited a region just before fallign ill where the plague is endemic in rodents the local hunt and regularly get infected (and several die). That is also why there is a lab not very far from there that is studying plague - so that's legit. BUT...

Peter Barabas @peterbarabas.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The kind of plague that affects the lungs, pneumonic plague is different from the bubonic plague (aka "black death") in that it is transmissible directly between humans (the black death is transmitted by tick bites) and is much faster to kill and at higher %. So it's much worse - hence the alert.

Peter Barabas @peterbarabas.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
There is some confusion here, and neither the Russians or this erm stable genious are not helping. The Russians say that a 20-something year old tech from their plague-lab died of pneumonia. So they did not confirm she died of plague, actually they are saying the opposite, and they could be lying.

Just because I think ill of Trump and Netanyahu, does not mean I am rooting for the Iranians to push the world off a cliff, something they seem to be diligently working at. Holding the world economy hostage, or attacking cities, hotels etc IS a choice, and neither a necessity or a prerogative.

I'm sorry but WUT?! Should they be also allowed to hire security that would have the legal option of killing people they think are terrorists, attacking their facility? This is as slippery stuff as it gets.

What does "do no harm" mean in practice, you might ask? Consent is a good place to start with.
011
Peter Barabas @peterbarabas.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Allowing people to be themselves is not the same as giving them special treatment. It's giving them the treatment we want for ourselves. Gender, sexuality, should only matter when it comes to sex, and that should simply be based on the "do no harm and have fun" principle.

Unfortunately, this is where the current system is pushing us towards, because robots can be OWNED, just like slaves used to be owned. And the billionaire class needs to put somewhere tangible its trillions of financial assets.
000
Peter Barabas @peterbarabas.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think the aim is to transfer all human work to robots. Now if this is done to get rid of labor unions, salaries, etc ie to remove a significant cost from producing stuff, so that the cost saving can be channeled the same way all the rest have been - then I think we're heading into deep dystopia.

The name itself, optogenetics sounds very cool, but basically we are just using our current understanding of genetic information storage and processing by biological systems to enable cells to produce proteins that make them sensitive to light. This way we can "switch" on/off nerve cells with light.

Here is a short summary for the more biologically literate about some of the basics of optogenetics and its offshoot, chemigenetics, about the history of discovering microbial opsins, called channelrhodopsins - and how these became the basis of new research tools. www.nobelprize.org/uploads/2026...

It is MUCH cheaper to buy one guy once than to buy votes directly. It just makes business sense to get (sorry, support) somebody elected, who will look after YOUR interests. A kind of insurance and asset at the same time, so a really worthy investment. #democracy for billionaire pennies

The slow killing of NHS and pushing private healthcare has been the answer we got handed because of our leaders in all our ageing countries were not willing to talk about the hard questions and costs. That just meant we allowed the answers to be given by those who financially benefit from them.

Private equity strikes again. This time they hoovered money out of TalkTalk, a large broadband company in the UK. It usually takes 3-5 years to suck a company dry by these leeches and what do you know... private equity took over TalkTalk 5 years ago. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What they can digest is limited by the short length of their digestive tract. So if you were to provide all the basic nutrients that would be in meat, pre-digested and still palatable to a feline, you could in theory get away doing that. The microbiota of their gut though might still not be happy.

It reminds me of the sacks of potatoes dropped off at households before elections in poor villages. It became the norm and an expectation in Hungary and at that point it started losing its effectiveness - after 16 years. Buying votes should be illegal in any country that purports to be a democracy.

This is the cheapest way to buy undecided votes of people who never even heard of politics. Money in the pocket - does not matter how little, with a nice letter saying "Cash JUST FOR YOU - arranged by the President" will have an effect on the elections. He will probably do this again one more time.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me proud-ish to be a human. Our ability to extend our limited sensory abilities and reach out over mind bogglingly vast distances to learn about things we will never ever be able to "just see". Same with our efforts to see into the microcosm.

I think two similar meetings were already held. Some NATO countries do have occasional high profile meetings with just a few of the members, so in and on itself this would not necessarily mean anything sinister, but in the context of the Trump admin's anti-EU/pro-Russia stance, it looks really bad.

I think they are and have been. And so they are called emotional. It's MEN that need to get really angry about other men raping women so that those that do, start to get really afraid and hope fervently they are caught by police and not by enraged fathers, boyfriends, brothers...

What I mean re defence, is that while the Trump admin has burned down all the bridges and trust the USA had with the EU, it doesn't mean we can't buy American weapons if we get a "good deal". Reliance needs to be dialed down and straight up anti-EU moves (like trying to break it up) countered.

Maybe Europe needs do conduct "diplomacy" with the USA in a transactional way (but not with other partners). It's not about being a d*ck, it's about adapting to the kind of language and thinking that they understand and respond to. Appeasement does not work, "business" does.

When the conversation is happening purely at the emotional level between these people, facts do not matter. What matters is that he caught and nailed that nasty-no-good Trump-hater and that is the end of their story. Whether it happened at all, that is beside the point, for them and their audience.
