This moment from Amol Rajan’s interview with Gary Lineker still gives me chills.
Amol interviewing Gary Lineker:

Gary: “The mass murder of thousands of children is probably something that we should have a little opinion on.”

Amol, sat in a comfy chair, legs crossed and looking upwards as if philosophising: “But the BBC as a whole needs to be impartial about it.”

We’re seeing the cover of this book come true before our eyes.
Book cover of Omar El Akkad’s book. A red background and text that reads:

“One day, when it's safe, when there's no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it's too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this”

Only the following words are picked out in white, with the others in a darker red than the cover:

“One day, everyone will have always been against this”

“Solidarity matters” apparently… but I guess not when there’s a shop to promote. 🥴
A previous post from Sadiq’s Bluesky account on 14.58 on 24 Jul 2026 reads:

At a time when trans people face growing hostility, solidarity matters. This weekend, tens of thousands of Londoners and visitors will come together at London Trans+ Pride to show that our city stands for inclusion, respect and equality.

I got to Kings Cross incredibly early for my train north. I’ve had long enough to stare at the Greggs sign and I strongly believe the “S” is upside down.
Shop front of Greggs in Kings Cross station, on the mezzanine level with the pink and red lit ceiling of the station in shot too.

The Greggs logo is all caps, as individually mounted letters. The letter S looks to be upside down as the lower part looks smaller than the top.

The correct answer is Kylie because she has a bazooka.
Kylie Minogue as Cammy in the nineties film version of Street Fighter. She’s in a strong pose wearing a blue vest and blue and red camo leggings. She’s holding a missile launched that’s probably as long as she is tall.

“There are other political parties out there who would argue that a lot of these people were out there last night just articulating what they would think are legitimate views” says BBC presenter Martin Geissler about rioters chasing non-white people in the streets and setting fire to their homes. 🫠
Screenshot of the article:

Greer went on: "I'm proud of the fact that Scotland is a welcoming country. I'm proud of the fact that this is a country where people like that are on the margins of our society, and we need to all stand together on a day like this, because there are a lot of people in this country, a lot of our fellow Scots who are feeling afraid this morning, who are afraid to leave their homes this morning because they're not white, and they see what these people want to stir up against people who are not white. I stand against that, the Scottish Greens stand against that. I think the vast majority of people in this country reject that kind of hatred."

Geissler then concluded the exchange by saying "that is your opinion".

"I asked for your opinion, you've made it absolutely crystal clear. In the interest of balance, I should say there are other political parties out there who would argue that a lot of these people were out there last night just articulating what they would think are legitimate views that are opposed to yours," he added.

"But listen, let's move on."

OK I’m watching the Kylie Netflix documentary and already have new favourite photos. I. Am. Going. To. Be. In. Tears. Throughout.
Kylie at 19, in 1987, sitting in a plane seat with hair tied back doing a sort of nonchalant smile. Maybe a bit tired. But so bright eyed still. Very 80s. Leather jacket. Big metal earrings. A cutie.

Spot the mistake with this graphic.
A news presenter - a white man in a suit - stands in front of a big screen showing the vote share of Wigan council election results as bar charts. Reform UK has 50%, then Labour at 27% and then it goes a bit wrong because although Green shows 10%, and Conservatives at 7%, the graphic has the party logos switched. Not cute.

Greens
A starting point for reflection, not a verdict.
Read the methodology for how it's scored.

Full ranking - seven main parties

• Greens 29.2% +0.6
• SNP 19.2% +0.6
• Plaid Cymru 17.7% +0.6
• Liberal Democrats 16.9% +0.6
• Labour 14.8% +0.6
• Reform UK 1.1% +0.6
• Conservatives 1.0% =0.6

A smaller party (Your Party) is scoring 18.8% - would be at position 2 of 10.

I mean if the following statement from the British Journal of Sports Medicine doesn’t make you ponder whether sex testing is wrong I don’t know what will.
Text reads:

In advance of the 2025 World Athletics
Championships in Tokyo, World Athletics (WA) announced that passing a genetic test, specifically for the absence of the SRY gene, is a prerequisite for competing in the women's category in all athletics World Rankings Competitions as of 1 September 2025 (online supplemental table 1).
Athletes who do not pass the test will be considered 'biological males' and required to prove that they have complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) in order to compete. This requirement recycles an intentionally discontinued practice from the last century. After ending the discredited chromosome (Barr body) tests that had been used since the 1960s, the International Olympic Committee briefly used SRY gene tests from 1992 to 1999' before they were also withdrawn because of inaccuracy, lack of evidence of performance advantage, excessive cost including the cost of counselling, and the trauma and stigmatisation experienced by athletes and their families.

Posting the original screenshot from @owenjones.bsky.social but with alt text (disappointed he doesn’t do this tbh):
That much will be revealed when the Gorton by-election comes. Only Burnham could have won it for Labour. Starmer's critics now fear the party will not only lose it, but forfeit their claim to challenge Reform entirely, as was the case in Caerphilly last October when Plaid Cymru galvanised progressive opposition to both the government and Farage. This time it is Zack Polanski's insurgent Greens who stand to benefit. "A Reform win would be terrible," said a sometime adviser to the leadership. "But a Green win would be existential." Already imperilled by one unwinnable test of his electoral appeal in May, Starmer has chosen to contrive another in February.

So the suggestion from the Very Serious People in Labour is that we’ll use Trident (i.e. start a nuclear war) to defend Greenland from the USA? 🤔 How’s that going to work, especially seeing as we need the USA’s permission to use Trident? 🤔🤔🤔

The album cover to Kylie ‘Fever’. Photographed by Vincent Peters, it shows Kylie dressed in a white vest, tied sash underwear and white stilettos. Loving this email from Thames Water. Apparently my Direct Debit of £0.00 failed because I may not have had enough money in my account. 🤪 Anyway: Public ownership now!
Text from a screenshot of an email reads:

We couldn't take your usual payment

Hello Peter

We couldn't take your latest Direct Debit of £0.00 - this is usually because there aren't enough funds in an account.

What to do next?
Please check your bank balance or speak to your bank to see what's happened.

We'll try again to take £0.00 on 31 October 2025. Your bank might charge you if we can't take the payment so, if this is a problem, please let us know.

If you need to change the date we normally take your Direct Debit, you can do this in your online account.
