When the UK was in the EU, we couldn't legally prevent illegal immigration. Now we aren't in the EU, we cannot practically prevent illegal immigration. And the French authorities do nothing - well the problem is being transferred to the British, so why bother???

It doesn't matter. The point I was making was that *illegal* immigrants, annually totalling now 100,000 or more (the equivalent of a medium size town) are immediately given, courtesy of the UK taxpayer, higher levels of care than our own citizens. (Or indeed, *legal* immigrants!).
