FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA MICHAEL MCFAUL SAYS IT ALL:

"I want to remind everybody that Trump and Vance have done absolutely NOTHING

for President Zelenskyy or Ukraine. They told him he has to GIVE UP his territory to Russia. They told him he CAN'T join NATO. They have NOT given new assistance. SO WHY IN GOD'S NAME SHOULD THEY

Republicans face midterm backlash from factory workers squeezed out of jobs by Trump's tariffs

Genius or fool? Trump’s ‘qualities’ were never in doubt. Those republican lawmakers who hitched their wagon to him did so with the cynical recognition that he was a corrupt fool but an electoral asset. Meanwhile the ignorant masses of MAGA were convinced he was a genius. Reality beckons for both.

I see Trump apologists getting apoplectic at this, which is pure childishness. The President of the USA openly and repeatedly threatened Canadian sovereignty and belittled Canadian independence. It would have been dereliction of duty if Carney did not consider this.

They were like this 30 years ago, as we saw to our disgrace and shame in the post-9/11 debacle. The same incompetent Liberty College and Ave Maria U grad Heritage Foundation goons who looted Iraq and FEMA and laughed as New Orleans drowned? are hiring more of the same now.
In a 2004 article appearing in the New York Times Magazine, Suskind wrote:
“The aide said that guys like me were in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality. [...] 'That's not the way the world really works anymore, ' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality-judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'.”

Actually the biggest lesson from the Schmitt debacle is that Republicans have so internalized and learned to justify Trump’s corruption and disdain for ethics, they assume everyone is corrupt and stupid. They cannot imagine an honest public servant.

Key point: The news is not Putin trying to subvert “the West”: Brexit, AfD, Le Pen, Orban, everything remotely right wing he supported. The news is that the U.S. have turned. There is no “West” anymore. There is a fragile island of liberal democracies in Europe encircled by autocracies.
While I saw some real weaknesses in Biden's policy towards Ukraine (and still do), he remained absolutely committed to the Atlantic alliance.
