Day 7. One thing I do know, you need to be very careful drawing lines on female character faces, but it's so clear here! Still lots to learn. #psycho #panic #leigh #inktober #notanartist

Day 6. This isn't even a full tilt, but it was enough to throw everything off. Whoops. One step forward, two steps back. #ogre #shrek #inktober #notanartist

Day 3. Found a few spare moments to do some more post-it portraits! I pushed the head-shape a bit here, but I like it - even if it doesn't look like the reference at all. #miniature #devito #inktober #notanartist

Opening a Terminal blind bag I've been sitting on since San Diego. I've said before that blind bags are speculative and a little silly, and I stand by every word - but I'm part of the problem. Thanks to Comic Book Hideout for this one.

The campaign for Switch/Restart is nearly over. Just over an hour to go! Can't wait for people to read this novella. It's been something I've been working on for quite a while and represents a whole new arm of everything we're doing at Pesto Comics.

Emerald City is dropping physical badges. I get the environmental argument, and it's probably true, but there are a hundred other places to cut. It's a free memento. We already lost ticket stubs from concerts and games. Let's not lose these too.

You can be a fan of comic book movies. Comic book characters. Comic book recaps on YouTube. But you can't call yourself a comics fan if you've never read one. Trade, digital, library copy, doesn't matter how you get there.

Nobody asks why Westerns aren't taking Best Picture every year. Comic book films are their own genre. They're worth your time because of what they are, not because they cleared somebody else's bar.

Kelly Thompson has a Zatanna spinoff idea and DC hasn't jumped on it. Marvel learned this the hard way with Ultimate Team-Up - when something's hot the instinct is to flood it, and then you're ignoring your own continuity a year later. Being deliberate is why Absolute still works two years in.

Marvel's going compact, bundling, stacking retailer incentives and building Midnights as big as they can. Nobody's complacent, everybody's pushing creators and helping retailers move books. Now I want to see Image climb, and Mad Cave, and Dark Horse, and Ignition. More competition, more stories.

I caught Rogue Trooper at TIFF's Midnight Madness and it lived up to every expectation. This is what happens when you get filmmakers that are passionate about the source material and respect it.

Following up on the manga question - ICv2 reported that Manga Spot, a manga-focused store, made room for Western comics because their customers were already crossing over. Absolute Batman beside Chainsaw Man. TMNT beside One Piece.

Adriano | Pesto Comics @pestocomics.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Part 3 of 3. Compact editions of comics are being shelved right next to Chainsaw Man and My Hero Academia. This is how they learn from each other.

Adriano | Pesto Comics @pestocomics.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Part 2. The artists were always there - Joe Mad had it in the 90s and stood out because of it. What's changed is the readers. Younger fans come up on manga and find Western books second.

NPR interviewed a comic shop owner in Lima, Ohio about how tariffs have gutted his toy sales. Tariffs are bad, full stop, and I'm Canadian so trust me, I've heard enough about them. It's still one of his better years. Because comics are carrying the store. When's the last time you heard THAT?

One week to go. SNIP 3-5 wraps the whole series before it hits shelves in October, and the Kickstarter is the only place to get the exclusive covers. September 25th is your deadline. If you'd rather get it at your shop, that works too - just tell them to pull the whole run, not only issue 1.

Busier September than I planned for. SNIP 3-5 is live on Kickstarter through the 25th - that's the wrap-up to the series before it hits the direct market, with exclusive covers from some incredible artists. Switch/Restart is on BackerKit through October 1st as part of Printopia.
