I wrote about why the left has so little to say about public education (and why this is a big problem). educationwars.substack.com/p/whats-left...

The left has no vision for public schools - and that’s a big problem

Ein Beispiel für eine lacanianische Analyse der Politik – die „Gilets jaunes“ – findet sich bei Colette Soler, *Retour sur la fonction de parole*, Kapitel 2. Sie gilt als die führende Lehrerin für Lacans Werk.

Media consumption occurs at the level of discourse. Discourse for Lacan includes only agents, others, product, and truth. No symptoms. Of course, symptom means many things in other discourses. For Lacan it is the source of suffering for a subject and/or the way a subject knots jouissance & semblant

It’s easy to see how this could look like schizophrenia. (Schizophrenic are the only ones who do not participate in any discourse, as they reject the Other as a fraud. Participation in a discourse requires subscribing to the semblant.)

(Everything is proved now to be a semblant.) And in part to the rise in capitalism and the discourse of science. The former eliminates the S1 of meaning, leaving only subjects in a recurrent encounter with objects of jouissance. Most of which are now endlessly produced by science.

foreclosure. A political analysis using the work of Lacan would focus on identifying the semblant in the position of the master and the object small a/jouissance product that is being sought/extracted. The sense that we have have become lost in fictions is due in part to the fall of ideals.

Politics per Lacan is the discourse of the master. Every discourse establishes a hierarchy, except the discourse of psychoanalysis. I agree that using terms such as psychosis and schizophrenia relative to discourse is not helpful. Simply put, where neurotics have repression, psychotics have

Yes, 19C Zionism is obviously r/t Herder and European nationalism. Herzl said, we’ll have what they’re having. But the limitations (a euphemism) of that idea have been painfully demonstrated everywhere. It’s no longer viable to insist on a state to cultivate the genius of ‘a people.’

Lacan’s work evolved. Without disputing your comment, I will add that in the final version of the mirror stage, it’s clear that the symbolic is already engaged at the same time. It is what allows a double identification to take place with the mirror image. On the one hand, recognizing the image

And therefore evolution of language, clearly puts a limit to how much AI can replicate human thought. The obstacle is not ‘communicative intention.’ It’s the necessity of having a body ‘impregnated by language,’ as Lacan said. (Quoting Geneva Lecture on the Symptom from memory.)

In the US the discourse on education is completely psychotic. Eg, we talk a lot about what level of education and what topics people “should”’pursue and never mention employers. Why require a bachelors for everything? In my work I removed the requirement where appropriate. Lots of great candidates!
