The contactor in my 12 year old Carrier A/C (3.5 ton unit) went bad yesterday and started to make a terrible rattling and buzzing sound, right before the heat hits. I already had a replacement contactor and installed it and now the unit is operating correctly. Check your A/C or have pro look at it.
