But cycad taxonomy isn’t my strong point - corrections welcome. (Fronds & cones are too large to be #Macrozamia lucida.) 010

Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 21/02/2025Introduction of lighter V2-mini optimised Starlink sats is assumed tied to the heavier D2C sats & is constrained somewhat by F9 performance. Starshield sat mass is presumed to be somewhat heavier than the original V2-mini on which they are based ~780 kg. 100
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 21/02/2025Most payload masses are from public sources. Transporter, Bandwagon & classified launches are all guesstimates. Dragon spacecraft mass is included. Starlink D2C sat mass was inferred from F9 performance: ~830 kg. 100
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 21/02/2025Tonnage of course includes estimates but I was only one launch early for the 1000 tonne milestone announced by SpaceX in 2024. #NROL126 was counted as a #Starlink launch, carrying 20 Starlink sats and only 2 #Starshield 100
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 21/02/2025#SpaceX #launches & #mass_orbited Sorry, I got distracted. #Payload launched makes the point better than launch count: #LEO is where it’s all happening, even excluding #Starlink. Notes follow. 110
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 24/01/2025The next #booster in line is often the least recently used one but that is less common now that 14 day turnarounds have happened. With the current fleet and turnaround times, SpaceX can fly #Falcon9 more than 400 times/yr. 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 24/01/2025#SpaceX #boosters are assigned to launches either at the #Cape or #Vandenberg. There are exceptions where boosters switch launch sites but they’re rare. Here’s the current roster 100

RUD & spectacular debris field reentry caught on cameras in the West Indies. 000

Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 15/01/2025Both #ElonMusk & #PeterBeck emphasised the importance & difficulty of increasing #launch #cadence. #SpaceX first launched #Falcon9 in 2010, #RocketLab has flown #Electron since 2017. Let’s see how they compared over the first 8 years. 010
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 15/01/2025To put that in context: #SpaceX #Falcon9 launches (all, including first flights & #FalconHeavy). The dip in 2019 was NOT due to #covid, which did not emerge until year's end. It did, however, apparently suppress launches in 2020 & 2021, delaying the upsweep in cadence. 100

Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 22/05/2024#NROL146 #Starshield must be based on the #Starlink bus, consistent with substitution & co-launch of Starlink V2 minis on mission 7-16. Mass will thus likely be similar to Starlink sats, launch number likewise (~20), to LEO similar to or interleaved with Starlink group 7 (53˚ 525 km). 000

Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/2024It’s hilarious: a mass of CO2 3.5x that of the fuel burned, extracted from the flue gas, liquefied, transported & buried. And that’s cost effective when renewables are already cheaper than fossil? 🤣 040
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/20246/ TLDR: Expect mean booster turnaround to approach 30 d & new boosters joining the fleet in 2024. Expect either an increase in the proportion launched from Vandenberg (as foreshadowed) or reassignment of a booster to the Cape to balance the load. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/20245/ Many of the fleet are veterans. Musk stated they are working to qualify them for 40 flights so that should not be an issue. However, booster expenditures (e.g. for Galileo) or unintended losses will have a big impact. New boosters will be needed. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/20244/ SpaceX assigns boosters to either east or west coast launches & rarely swaps them. Current assignments & days since last launch show that east coast boosters are worked harder - turnaround time might be limiting the east coast launch rate. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/20243/ Median turnaround time in 2023 was 49 d but it can clearly be done in <30 d so turnaround requirements can likely be met. There is however, a wrinkle: in 2023, 69% of launches were from the Cape, east coast, 31% from Vandenberg, west coast. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/20242/ With 15 active F9 boosters, excluding FH cores, each F9 booster must fly ~6.7 times in 8 months, for a mean turnaround time of 36 d. In practice it must be somewhat <36 d to provide leeway for scheduling. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate 000
Jillジリアン @pergillian.bsky.social · 04/05/2024#SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate The company wants to complete another ~100 launches in 2024 but is the booster fleet currently up to that task? A short 1/ 000
