My #cycad has 2 huge fruit cones this year #Bananaforscale 😁 Didn’t plant it but given the size, think it must be #Lepidozamia peroffskyana #ScalyCycad, not endemic to Sydney. But cycad taxonomy isn’t my strong point - corrections welcome. (Fronds & cones are too large to be #Macrozamia lucida.)

Bad luck #SpaceX on losing #Starship 33 on the 7th test flight. No details yet but presumably a fire in the engine bay, given the progressive loss of engines & flames spotted emerging behind a rear flap hinge. RUD & spectacular debris field reentry caught on cameras in the West Indies.

Both #ElonMusk & #PeterBeck emphasised the importance & difficulty of increasing #launch #cadence. #SpaceX first launched #Falcon9 in 2010, #RocketLab has flown #Electron since 2017. Let’s see how they compared over the first 8 years.

To put that in context: #SpaceX #Falcon9 launches (all, including first flights & #FalconHeavy). The dip in 2019 was NOT due to #covid, which did not emerge until year's end. It did, however, apparently suppress launches in 2020 & 2021, delaying the upsweep in cadence.

#NROL146 #Starshield must be based on the #Starlink bus, consistent with substitution & co-launch of Starlink V2 minis on mission 7-16. Mass will thus likely be similar to Starlink sats, launch number likewise (~20), to LEO similar to or interleaved with Starlink group 7 (53˚ 525 km).

5/ Many of the fleet are veterans. Musk stated they are working to qualify them for 40 flights so that should not be an issue. However, booster expenditures (e.g. for Galileo) or unintended losses will have a big impact. New boosters will be needed. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate

4/ SpaceX assigns boosters to either east or west coast launches & rarely swaps them. Current assignments & days since last launch show that east coast boosters are worked harder - turnaround time might be limiting the east coast launch rate. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate

3/ Median turnaround time in 2023 was 49 d but it can clearly be done in <30 d so turnaround requirements can likely be met. There is however, a wrinkle: in 2023, 69% of launches were from the Cape, east coast, 31% from Vandenberg, west coast. #SpaceX #Falcon9 #launchrate

The #GalileoFOC FM25-FM26 mission for the #ESA & #EUSPA was launched by #SpaceX from pad LC-39A at #KennedySpaceCenter. It delivered two European #Galileo #PNT/#GNSS sats, each ~800 kg, to ~circular MEO at 23600 km, 56˚ inclination (subject to confirmation).
