not to be all 'social media destroyed the internet' because i don't think that's true BUT i do think we basically destroyed the barrier that used to exist between the creator/author/performer and the audience and there's no prevailing sense of decorum or etiquette anymore about how to engage online

I have a comfort character or two I share traits with and when those characters get attacked for those traits, it feels bad (so I can understand how that gets magnified for others) but yeah, I think this is just another symptom of unchecked parasocial behaviour destroying what used to be fun spaces
