That is all to say, maybe we don’t live absolutely in a false reality, or one built entirely on carefully managed conditioning. Sure we can try to lie, but some parts of us will persist despite that fact; pieces resistant to rewiring due to development. That’s gotta be somewhat reassuring, I think?

Though that being said, what difference does it make in practice? Yes we are fleshy robots, but I still want a chimichanga. I still feel down, or excited, or desire adventure. Sure we can alter those motivations given enough conditioning, but we still have base inclinations that resist that change

Yes! But I can use the knowledge my being is chemistry to alter my perception of the world. Take it far enough, and one might argue there is no “objective” or “true” reality, only that which I perceive due to the status of my neurons. If they were conditioned differently I would respond differently

Like, sure the piece got done fast, but if you were treated like crap I wonder if you would just feel bad anytime you see their work due to conditioning. Meanwhile, while the other piece would be delayed, you would feel good interacting with the artist and thus feel good when you see their art

This might be an odd answer but I prefer the nice artist who takes a while on the piece. The issue with the mean artist is that if they’re shitty to you, that negative feeling might then translate to their work. Rather than looking at the piece and feeling horny, you just remember the bad vibes
