I definitely agree there. I've only ever seen one worse instance in my life. It was clearly someone who was down bad and did not care how it impacted others.

Yeah, and to compound it, my partner lost her mom to drunk driving so it was a triggering experience as well. I don't regret it, I just hate the system and perceived demons that led to that position.

Outside of cutting her off when we thought she was just a terrible driver, nothing. It just sucks to know that she's likely got troubles that got her here and the system will not help. I'm glad we got it taken care of, hate the next possible problems that may exacerbate issues. Blarg.

Unfortunately for her, there are enough priors that they said it was likely going to be a felony. I wish the system wasn't punitive and worked in rehabilitation spaces, which makes this all difficult for me to weigh whether it was right or not. She could have destroyed a life, but did I in turn?

I had to call the cops yesterday, which I hate doing, but the woman in front of us was so drunk that she almost rolled into a ravine and drove through a bike lane and onto the sidewalk. At that point public health takes precedent. Girlfriend and I followed her the whole way until police showed.

I definitely feel like the algorithmic influx of depressing *everything* to keep us invested demands a desire to escape in ways that are more uplifting. Like Ted Lasso is pretty empty consumption but it kills because it's so cloying as a feature. People are hunting for joy against everything else.
