Tonight let us recognize Speaker Joanna McClinton, who for 42 months held together an ideologically diverse Democratic caucus to maintain a one-vote majority in the PA House. Surely one of the most talented legislative leaders in the country. Finally she has some breathing room.

It got a brief mention in the episode, but Mortenson was (is?) really into the Population Bomb shit. I heard him speak once and his biggest applause line was along the lines of "the biggest problem in the world today is too many babies are being born."

Should add "temporarily embarrassed one-stater" to the lexicon

"Israel's right to exist" is often formulated as a right possessed by global Jewry (see IHRA definition). What's rare is the explicit statement of the contrapositive: that all Jews' rights would be violated if Israel stopped being able to treat Jews preferentially.

A factoid that will blow some minds - PA-03 results with white-majority wards EXCLUDED: 🥇 Chris Rabb - 34,647 - 36.80% 🥈 Sharif Street - 33,220 - 35.29% 🥉 Ala Stanford - 24,437 - 25.96%
PA-03 including only majority-minority wards

3,000-vote margin from the 21st ward...staggering
120
Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 20/05/2026
Case in point, Street broke 60% in just one ward, the tiny 16th. Rabb broke 60% in six wards.

Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 20/05/2026
So what happened? Street won West Philly, but Rabb won Center City by even more. Meanwhile, Stanford held up pretty well, limiting Street's margin in his best wards. And progressive wards posted huge margins for Rabb.

If either Center City or West Philly votes decisively for Street, that should be enough to win him the election. But if Rabb fights to a draw or close to it in both areas, I expect him to be headed to Congress.

Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
But with Stanford's stock dropping late in the race, Center City and/or West Philly might break for someone else. Will they go for the party-backed Street? Or the progressive, Inquirer-endorsed Rabb?

Stanford's path to victory involves winning both Center City (wards 15, 8, & 30) and West Philly (52, 34, 4, 44, 6, 24, 3, & 60). If her early TV presence was enough to lock down areas outside of Rabb's and Street's bases, she could succeed Evans in Congress.
120
Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
So what's left? Wealthy white liberals in Center City, and less politically-affiliated Black voters in West Philly (north of the Baltimore Ave. corridor). These are the areas I'll be watching most closely to see which way this election is heading.
130
Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
Street also expects to perform well in his home district in North Philly, mostly made up of less politically-affiliated Black voters (wards 13, 11, 16, 32, 47, & 29). But like Rabb, Street's base alone isn't enough to seal the deal.
130
Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
Street's base is pro-establishment Black voters, mostly concentrated in the 50th, 10th, & 17th wards in Northwest Philly. Though Stanford tried for this group with Rep. Evans' endorsement, and Rabb represents some of this area, the party should deliver these votes for Street.

Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
He'll also need to win what I call "progressive-curious" neighborhoods like Germantown (59th & 12th) and Roxborough (21st). But the progressive bloc alone isn't enough for a Rabb win.
250
Pennsylvania Maps @pennsylvaniamaps.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
Rabb has the clearest base of support in progressive neighborhoods. A Rabb win will include gangbusters margins in his home turf of Mt. Airy (22nd ward), East Passyunk (1st & 2nd), and Baltimore Ave. corridor (27th & 46th).

Of the 6 blocs, there are 4 with a sizable presence in PA-03: Black pro-establishment, Black less affiliated, wealthy white liberals, and younger white progressives. These are the groups that will decide today's primary.

I'm exhausted by all the efforts to rewrite the history of the 2022 US Senate primary in Pennsylvania, with folks insisting "we told you so!" as to Fetterman, that Conor Lamb was always the better choice, and generally ignoring Malcolm Kenyatta's historic candidacy. So let me say a few things. 🧵1/

The way I see it, modernity has caused the US system of govt to converge on a dissolution of the separation of powers btwn the legislative & executive. A policymaking branch, if you will. But if that is to be the case, I'd rather policymaking power be vested in a parliament than the president alone.

Problem is, baseball WAR is close an all-encompassing statistic. SplitTicket's WAR provides useful information but it's nowhere near on that level, and it's maddening for its authors to act like they've solved politics.

The races for PA Commonwealth and Superior Court have gotten surprisingly little attention. Those are hugely important and are likely to be much closer than the retention votes. If you need any more motivation to cast a ballot, here it is.
