Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 07/10/2026It's just a number that sounds pretty big generally, but isn't that big in this context. £1bn doesn't sound enough and £100bn invites awkward questions. 010
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I have to say, that I didn't read it that way. I read it as simply meaning that the broader truth about racism must also be true of the specific context in the JDA, i.e antisemitism. I think it's a stretch to read it otherwise. 100
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It's the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism. It's about antisemitism, so it has to single out antisemitism. Am I missing something, or is that really obvious? 110
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I'd expect to be compensated for the risk because the loan would not be covered by the Government guarantee and I'd expect a share of any profit you make with it. Perhaps we can discuss your plans. 001
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Plenty of people do though by way of current accounts or low interest deposit accounts. 100
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 28/09/2026That's the difference between sharing in the returns on profitable/productive activities and simply charging interest on otherwise idle funds. 200
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 28/09/2026True, but if there was no interest the opportunity cost would not include interest you could earn elsewhere and any compensation would be adjusted for the comparative risk say of investing in productive activities. If the loan was risk free, the interest element of any "return" would therefore be 0% 110

Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Most people assume they are at no risk of losing any of these rights because they do not belong to a group that has been denied them. They seem to forget that "people like them" have only enjoyed them for a very brief period of history and most of that coincides with the existence of the ECHR. 010

Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 22/09/2026All very depressing. I would like to ask Mr Burnham and other leaders at what point they would have stopped indulging Herr Hitler and started calling him out. I appreciate we may not be at that point with Mr Trump yet, but leaders need a clear idea of where it is. 000

Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 21/09/2026"British" is a problem for the right, because if you have a British passport, you are undeniably British. This is why they have latched onto "English" as a means of othering people, despite having no definition for it. This is a cynical tactic that only exists in the UK. We must not engage with it. 000
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 21/09/2026They object to this kind of ethnic identity, so they seek to create another. To most people living in England this doesn't matter much, if at all (hence the polling) so why does it matter so much to them? Most people have a bundle of identities and celebrate them with others who so identify. 100
Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 21/09/2026This is only a problem in Britain. If you have German citizenship you are German. The right have latched onto it and are very keen to judicate on who is not English. What they never do is define what "Englishness" is. They ascribe much more significance to it than "Germanness" for example. Why? 111

Pennoangle @pennoangle.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Burnham doesn't have a "funny accent" or "sound funny".
