Between IWD 2025–2026, nearly 1 in 5 women killed by men in the UK were suspected to have been killed by their own sons. Child-to-parent abuse is often hidden. We must include it in domestic abuse and VAWG strategies. Stand with us. Give a voice to the voiceless. #DomesticAbuseAwareness

In fact our 2025 PEGS report on adult children found that 77% of those displaying abusive behaviours had not experienced domestic abuse in childhood. This shows us clearly that CPA isn’t always about what’s been 'learnt' and that parents are not to blame for the behaviours they’re experiencing.

Experts estimate that at least 3% of homes in the UK are impacted, that’s around 870,000 families. Many incidents of CPA go unreported. Parents may feel fear, shame or worry that they won’t be believed all of which can make reaching out for support feel impossible.

This often comes alongside coercive and controlling behaviours and gaslighting, which we hear about frequently at PEGS. For many parents, this form of abuse can be so intense that it damages family relationships, friendships and even marriages for some.
