Love the care package of zines & stickers I ordered for myself during my birthday month from the delightful @dethpsun.bsky.social. There were some cute bonuses thrown in too that were so cool!

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

“In Dallas for the premier of '9 to 5', I had an uncanny experience, and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened and said, "Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her." We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

I hate how i can hear AI story telling patterns while scrolling through certain platforms. After hearing certain authors talk about their use of AI in “researching” or combining chapters I think I’ll stick to older books for a while.

Sorry I don’t have any cafe recs, but if you need two food recs, I highly recommend SAKU for the best, bespoke katsu you didn’t think you needed & DINESTY DUMPLING HOUSE for excellent dim sum. Richmond is Asian food Mecca. Hope you have lots of fun there!

Totes, Jonathan! My hubs & I are headed to NYC in early October & wow, have the prices increased since we were there 9 years ago. 🤯 We used Booking.com & found a decent deal for ~ $350/night at Hilton Home2 Suites (we need a kitchenette). Hope you can find something in your budget. 🤞

We like Sugimoto Tea Company, based in Seattle. We brew their Secha, Kukicha & Hojicha. 🍵 And you’re so right about using the exact temp. Marcus read the directions on their site & followed them using the right temp & brewing time & wow, they taste amazing. Never enjoyed green tea like this before.
