Design systems are starting to fix themselves. So what’s the limit, and who defines it? My new article, “Who decides who decides?”, is about what happens when nobody decides. I call it the authorship gap. sl1nk.com/quoj4oe

A recent conversation with Cristian Morales prompted me to think more deeply about AI readiness. A system is not ready just because agents can use it. Teams must also ask: Should it act? May it decide? medium.com/@pgh.ahmadi/...

A Design System Isn’t AI-Ready Until Its Decisions Are Legible

AI can find components and follow tokens. The harder question is who decides what it is allowed to change.

Decision records (ADRs, RFCs, PR approvals): written by choice, at human cadence, and inert to the next agent run. Requirement files do reach the run, but store the rule, not who decided the exception, why, or under what condition. On the missing unit, building on Nathan Curtis's spec-driven work.

We keep asking whether a human is in the loop. Wrong question. The better one: can the human still do the thing the loop was built to let them do? Judgment isn’t something you have. It’s something you do. And it fades one unexercised decision at a time. New piece: sl1nk.com/y8x8kum

We barely finished hyping AI And we’re already in the enshitification phase

What if design system “violations” were just decisions we forgot to capture? I built a small Figma plugin to test that in practice. hostyurl.us/YTK8UN

The perceived cost of delay is higher than breaking a design system constraint. So decisions keep happening. The system just doesn’t remember them.

I have family in Iran, so I think a lot about how technology shapes real-world decisions. “Human in the loop” sounds reassuring. But when systems move at machine speed, humans can quietly become observers. The real question: can they still say no?

AI is entering decision loops. Ownership of those decisions is getting blurry. I call this authority collapse. New essay on Authority Architecture ↓ medium.com/@pgh.ahmadi/...

“Let’s make tech a bit more human.” That’s what I mean by UXistentialism: designing patterns that support autonomy, clarity, and authenticity, while embracing the limits and messiness of being human in a world that often feels chaotic and absurd.
