@melaniemitchell.bsky.social Is it silly of me to assume that Altman & Co. decide to "slow down" AI development only because they have no idea how to advance it further now that they can't find any more training data?

You are my literary executor now. (I use heat-sensitive ink, so you can put it all in the oven at 70°C/160°F for ~20 minutes and then reuse the paper: 120gms, A5, Edition Peters' bright chamois, really too good to waste.)

follow through with this, burn them unread, at the behest of a loose paper, after refusing the very act in person. When push comes to shove, I'd much rather have someone like you in my camp, certain that I could rely on you, but I do find Brod's doubts plausible, precisely because he wasn't that.

I agree with the heart of this. Especially since Brod's interventions went far beyond "not destroying" them. I wonder how I'd feel if these books weren't so dear to me, I know it affects my judgement, but it's just unimaginable to me that K, a high-ranking lawyer, expected Brod of all people to...

Brod valued & championed these writings more than anyone and he refused their destruction in conversation with Kafka. That's the kind of favour you ask consent for and he didn't get it. You can't just "last will" someone into doing something they'll forever regret like it's the ice bucket challenge.

Love this approach. Very apt for presenting an interpretation of quantum mechanics and I hope it catches on. Wittgenstein would have thrown a fit by 1.3. at the latest, but that's just what he does.

It's so depressing that the pushback to these violations, even in the devout world of football, is nearly as robotic i.e. going through the motions without considering even the possibility of a real consequence. Someone, anyone, should take the ball and go home. For the love of the game.

I'll have another go at it with this in mind, thank you! I certainly had the wrong mindset on my first read, a decade after last reading 1, and real quick before visiting a Faust exhibition. But if my second read doesn't go any better, I'll just content with being a dogbrain. There's worse.

Your thoughts do make me want to revisit it, maybe with the help of extensive commentary, but I worry that my brain doesn't have the RAM to keep up with all these meta-allegories made from ~10 different mythologies. Blink woof meow is all I got.

Shattered my brain in three that one, never felt so dumb. I went into it all cheery with my Faust 1 cap on when I should have approached it like a NYT crossword written in madrigal verse. Finnegans Wake feels positively breezy in comparison.

I really don't understand how the Trending thing works on here. When you click on "Ted Cruz", you just get random skeets mentioning Texas. "Melania movie" is just a bunch of people talking about "The Apprentice". Thing is useless.

How to counter their "flooding the zone with shit" remains one of the hardest, most pressing questions of our time. I've said this before but if Watergate had taken place in this environment, it certainly wouldn't have stayed in the news long enough for Nixon to resign.

Snyder making his argument in full sentences makes it seem more sophisticated than it is. It's the dumbest fucking playbook of 21st century dictators. Trump's obviously too dumb to be the orchestrator, but he's also too dumb to keep his mouth shut about it. He's pretty happy to admit it.

I wonder where the threshold lies, but I reckon it depends entirely on how many people you consider hopeless fools. If the proportion of "wrong uses" divided by the general average of fools is greater than 1, then your system fails. (Which goes to show how useful it is to be an arrogant prick.)

Calling these non-creations "books" or "music" already feels like wearing the war bonnet because feathers are pretty in how it dismisses the actual, irreplaceable, personal relationship and labour inherent to & defining of them. "AI-art" is to art what L. Tussaud's waxworks to their living models.

What strikes me is that in both instances of verh/forgebracht it looks like he was overwriting another letter with the f/h. Maybe a v, n or a. In the second instance it even looks like he had used new ink on the h/f and the b. Maybe that's why the letter looks so odd.

Can you add a picture of another instance of this word? It looks like this might be a lower case Kurrent "h" instead of an "f", making this "verhor" instead of "hervor". Nearly seems like a conscious Verballhornung.
