Atheism does have those things in common with many religions. However, it doesn't make any claims of supernatural phenomena. I think this one fact is enough to differentiate it from religion. If all the religions of the world were different TV channels, atheism's would be the off button.

Doubt and skepticism are characteristics of a thoughtful person. Faith is much the opposite of this, at least about the nature of things.

Here, here! Free speech goes both ways and must be protected. No religion or anything for that matter should be impervious to criticism. There are problems with Islam just like there are problems with Judaism, Christianity, capitalism, and socialism. Let's here them.

I author makes an interesting point about "anti-mattering" and its part in political violence. I would also suggest that 'belonging' is a component of this as well. People (mostly young males) don't seem to engage in political violence when they are well-supported emotionally by a community.

I often wonder how generally effective the goals written on IEPs are. Most of the goals I see involve a child being able to decode so many words or answer so many math problems correctly. They're specific but I wonder if these goals facilitate any meaningful change.

Climate is a pattern, and the pattern has changed. = Climate Change
Graphic reading, “The difference between ‘There used to be hot summers too.’ and climate crisis.” Below is a temperature-anomaly chart showing mostly blue, cooler-than-average years in the earlier record, shifting dramatically toward sustained red, warmer-than-average years in recent decades. Occasional earlier red bars are labelled “These were hot summers,” while the sustained cluster of increasingly warm recent years is labelled “This is climate change.”
