So let’s get their lobbyists out of Parliament House, ban the revolving door of consultants and politicians, and fix the funding of parties in a fair way. Improving democracy will help us then fix a lot of other problems.

For a paper so careful to sit astride the picket fence, it is remarkably sloppy with headlines.

The reality is more complicated, but it turns out the answer is still, overall quite egalitarian.

FFS This is Zak bashing. Where did Zak say he “increased the left wing vote”? The Greens vote increased. The overreaction to the reaction to a genocide, and pinning it all on Zak is disturbing, distasteful and unworthy.

So, we meed to really focus on democratic reform? Make the system work free of vested interests?

And we will not change anything until we change how our democracies work. Citizens assemblies, complete transparency, an end to donations etc. Liberate the Captured State!

Just so long as the electorate realises that without reform of our current system of “democracy” we have no say whatsoever in the sort of future we are going to have.

Reckon there will be whole, local, direct-contact economies created/ enlarged if/when AI takes over the running of much of national economies.

Meanwhile Environment Victoria, ACF, WWF et al focus on principles for the responsible development of data centres accepting the “AI boom” as a fait accompli. God help us.

Suppress income = suppress economic activity = suppress growth/ profits = price rises = inflation. And along the way, emiserate and effectively kill some poor people. Then wonder why we are losing faith in politicians.

It’s weird how much of the discussion about data centres in this country is focused on how they are powered. Meanwhile in other countries the focus is on stopping them being built at all. Like with the “gas tax” debate, we are missing the point.

Pete Stroud @pedro657.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
As a country we seem to be way behind the discussion, and opposition, to data centres that is apparent in the US. They cannot be rationalised other than in terms of the power of plutocrats.

Tragic that “common sense” now seems to be all about accepting a “non-linear” transition and bogus carbon accounting. (Personally I’d also name taxing gas as a massive distraction, but appreciate that’s not an at all popular opinion.)
