Like so many players under Emery’s tutelage, he’s come on leaps and bounds tactically above all else. Probably helped by standing next to Emery for 45mins every week for 3 years having instructions yelled into his ears, but some credit must go to Matty! 🤣

#avfc takeaways from Burnley -Bogarde is a very intelligent footballer & developing exponentially. -Malen is lethal from the right side of the box shooting across the keeper. -Konsa is so much better than the bottom half PL striker -Maatsen should have started, no need for Digne

Maybe not mate but I personally doubt he’d have been worse than Pau was yesterday. And if he really isn’t going to be trusted to start a match at CB then we have 3 senior centre backs, only one of whom is reliable for form and fitness (Konsa).

Among the many issues for #avfc we suddenly look scarily weak at CB don’t we? -Pau hasn’t had a decent run of form since his injury in 23/24. -Mings is 32 + all the injuries. -Bogarde is our 4th choice CB yet almost never trusted to play there.

Exactly. New contract and reassess next summer is a far better call. It’s fashionable to bash him, but he has 150 PL games under his belt, knows Emery’s system and gets the better of most wingers in this league. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My thoughts exactly. Hoping for a little boost with a couple of decent loans before the window shuts, then it’s time to park this narrative completely and focus on the football. Newcastle managed to ride a similar thing out and still do well on the pitch, hopefully we can do the same.

Need to hope it brings us together like it did w/ Newcastle, but even they had a nothingy year between their two CL qualifications. If the rules don’t change we could do with a year outside Europe, but then how do you keep players & manager interested…another catch 22.

Yep, and there is a part of me that is worried about Emery mid/long term - why spend year after year scrabbling around for scraps with Villa when he could go to Utd (or others) and spend £200m every summer ad infinitum?

#avfc thoughts, + and -: Lack of width. McGinn + Cash right w/ Digne + Rogers left was one-paced & stodgy. Ball progression without Tielemans at 6 - we missed his confidence in receiving + playing fwd under pressure. Kamara brilliant second half in 2 positions. Bizot looks great.

For me it’s very strange to play McGinn on the right when Cash is clearly told not to overlap him. Could probably just about work if we have Maatsen hugging the touchline on the other side. We had neither and it was so stodgy
