This next round of widespread heavy rain will be associated with a respectable low-pressure system aloft. Temps at 10kft could drop into the mid 30s early Wednesday. Not going to be surprised if more of northern New Mexico’s highest elevations see a few inches of snow for the first time. #nmwx

Another fun but otherwise useless wx fact: the relative humidity measured on our Davis weather station hasn’t dropped below 70% since 12:30 AM Tuesday, September 22. It will today but it has been quite a run. #nmwx

Thanks to @cocorahs.bsky.social for their AWESOME products. If you enjoy tracking precip, please consider signing up at: www.cocorahs.org Thanks to 4X rainfall this month, precip at our location is back to just above average for the WY and CY. Short-term boost; longer term not so much.

What a day! We’ve had measurable rain continuously since 2:30 am. Our 4” manual gauge captured 1.46” since 7am, which brings our total precip for the month to 5.48” — now our wettest September since we started tracking in 2012. Previously, September 2013 held that honor at 5.40”. #nmwx

Our rain gauge just crossed 4” for the month-to-date. That’s very close to our average precipitation for the entire fall season (SON). #nmwx

Low-level moisture on the increase. Dew point temperature from our local weather station is up 15 degrees as compared to yesterday morning. Latest HRRR model looking “boomy” later today. #nmwx #HappyFallEquinox

What a nice-looking thunderstorm well west of Albuquerque! This week’s wet pattern has pushed this month into our fourth-wettest September since 2012. #nmwx

Our family is heartbroken by the devastation in our old North Spokane neighborhood and life-changing impacts for many friends there. Leaving Boise this morning was my reminder to keep showing up for those in need.

Our rainfall total was 1.13”. Only the fourth time during the month of July that we’ve received more than one inch of rain in less than 24 hours.

Our Friends of the Sandias volunteer group has been constructing a new reroute along the North Faulty Trail under the direction of USFS personnel. We also help to clear trails of downed trees and brush. If you enjoy being in the Sandias and looking to get involved please feel free to reach out.

And with 1.02” during the past 24-hours we’re now the 4th wettest May since we started tracking at our location in 2011. Two of our wettest Mays also occurred during developing El Niños including 2015, which ended up being our last “super” EN. #nmwx

Wind data gathered from balloon-borne instruments revealed one of the least windiest springtime periods at ABQ in several decades when considering speeds at mountaintop levels. It may have “seemed” windier given blowing dust impacts but wind events were below average. #nmwx

The wind machine has been cranking early this AM east of the Sandias. Peak gust of 36 mph on our Davis station (10’ AGL) as of 4:30am has already tied our 2nd strongest gust of the year to date. Also, a paltry 28% relative humidity that is near our lowest Max RH recorded so far this year. #nmwx

Latest NMME continues to show a robust signal for above average precip potential across much of the Southwest July-August. It has, however, trended drier in the Four Corners next month and broadly across the region in June. Not good as the core of fire season looms. #nmwx

In wake of yesterday’s strong cold front, our weather station measured the 2nd highest MSLP (mean sea-level pressure) since October 1st. Values at/above 1035mb aren’t necessarily rare but they are not always observed every cool season to include last year. #nmwx

👀🥵 Modeled 700mb (~10kft if not slightly higher) temps at ABQ this Saturday range from 16-17°C. Temps are routinely sampled by wx balloons. They have never been that warm at that level at ABQ during March or April since daily upper-air obs began in 1948! #nmwx

Meanwhile, an absolute brutal heat dome is modeled to build over the Interior West/SW next week. Temps are expected to average 15-25 degrees above average or 2+ standard deviations above the mean. Off the charts! Not good for NM ski resorts trying to make it through spring break. #nmwx
