A dry day is still a reportable day! An important reminder: 0.00" is a report. When you check your gauge and report 0.00", you're telling us something important: you checked, and there was no measurable precipitation. That's different from having no report at all.

On October 1, we're launching The Grand Daily Reporting Challenge. How many precipitation reports CoCoRaHS observers can send in on a single day? Help set a new daily record! Whether your gauge catches a downpour, a few drops, some snow, or 0.00", your report counts! Mark your calendar!

The textbook fingerprint of El Niño is now visible in last month's sea surface temperature anomalies. El Niño is not a storm, but a natural pattern of climate variability. This redistribution of heat can influence weather worldwide, but is still hard to clearly disentangle. Data from OISSTv2.1 🌊

Never got around to answering this. When you’re displaying data from a bunch of personal weather stations with no control over how they are installed, you have no idea what the “real” or “right” values are.

Wednesday El Niño update - it continues to develop as expected, and its imprint on the large-scale atmospheric circulation is showing up more clearly. For this week, I also want to reiterate the importance of avoiding the El Niño hype (& 'scary' AI-graphics) and finding trustworthy sources of info.
Line graph time series of daily sea surface temperature anomalies in the Nino3.4 region. Years are shown from 1982 to 2025 in shades of blue to light yellow, and 2026 is shown in red. Climatologically, the largest anomalies are during the boreal winter in terms of magnitude. Data is from OISSTv2.1. Big Rain Bullseye - Southeast and East-Central Texas Tropical Depression Edouard produced heavy rain and gusty winds spreading well inland into Texas. The highest amount reported by CoCoRaHS observers so far is 9.00 inches near Woodville, TX in Tyler County. #Texas #Edouard 1/2
