Caliope, oldest of Jupiter’s nine daughters and muse of eloquence. Statues of all nine muses can be found in Stowe Gardens.

How can you be chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and not know that freedom of movement is at the heart of the EU. We simply can’t join the EU without accepting free movement (of people, services, goods and capital).

If you would like to add your voice to tens of thousands of people thanking RNLI volunteers for their work, 38 Degrees have organised this open letter to express public support (at a time when a hateful fringe have been intimidating & abusing RNLI volunteers) act.38degrees.org.uk/act/rnli-tha...

This is a disgrace. Brave RNLI volunteers being called scum for risking their lives to save others at sea is just plain wrong. So I've signed an open letter of thanks for the RNLI letting them know th...

I am bloody proud to be an #RNLI supporter and member! These brilliant men and women have quite enough to cope with without being harassed by the scum of the earth. Their only concern is to help people in danger at sea - not check passports first! Which is how it should be. Please RT if you agree🙏

It’s well known that Southern England is not particularly hilly. So the views from even small hills (such as Beacon Hill near Newbury) can still be far reaching. In the evening light it took me a while to pick out Highclere Castle.
Evening clouds looking northwest from Beacon Hill. Wooded hills in the foreground.Blue skies and clouds rolling away to the northeast over the horizon seen from a hilltop in the evening light.

Enjoyed a great performance of Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto and 9th symphony at the Royal Festival Hall, then heard someone on the train home confidently asserting that Schiller’s Ode to Joy is the German national anthem.

My practical problem with this is when, having paid VAT to have my coffee and panini on the premises, I can’t find a vacant amidst all the laptoppers and MacBookers who either didn’t buy anything or consumed what they bought ages ago.

Agreed. You can think Ian Huntley was a very bad man and also think it is very worrying that in a supposedly very secure prison a convicted criminal was able to get the opportunity and the weapon to beat another to death. Not being concerned about the second part just doesn’t cut it.
