Tonight's film noirs. Gang War featuring Charles Bronson. Two years later he was in the Magnificent Seven. The other is a first time watch and seeing Mickey Rooney away from comedy and musicals. @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social @noirfoundation.bsky.social

Next up tonight. Odds Against Tomorrow (1959). One of those films that skirts with Noir, I'd say it is. No matter. it's an excellent hard hitting film confronting racism head on. Accompanied by a first class jazz score. @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social #filmnoir

Snappy short Noir from 1947. Unusual for those times as it's features a female detective in the lead role. #NowWatching #filmnoir @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social

Friday night noir. I Walk Alone (1947). Douglas & Lancaster on great form in a tightly directed and written noir. I get the feeling that Lancaster despite his critical and box office success is almost forgotten today. @filmnoiruk.bsky.social @filmnoir.bsky.social #NowWatching #FilmNoir

Next is 21 Days (1940). First time watch and not entirely sure this is a Noir. But it's a chance to see Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh acting together in a low budget programmer. #NowWatching #filmnoir #vivienleigh #LaurenceOlivier @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social

First film noir tonight is Port of New York (1949) with a suave, villanous Yul Brynner playing the leader of drug operation. I think the narration is unnecessary. #NowWatching #filmnoir @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social

Tonight's noir from the @indicator.bsky.social boxset is The Long Haul (1957). Mature was in a number of noirs & a more versatile actor than the sword & sandal epics would suggest. Same with Dors who deserves her own boxset. #NowWatching #filmnoir @filmnoir.bsky.social @filmnoiruk.bsky.social

British film noir from 1956. Solid if stiff with shades of 12 Angry Men. Director Terence Fisher is better known for horror films. Endless smoking and a bottles of beer while the jury deliberate is quite funny. A daft ending lets it down. #NowWatching #filmnoir @indicator.bsky.social

Not a great film but interesting to see it made amidst Berlin's ruins (1955), an earlish George Cole role and Richard Widmark scooting around in a tiny Messerscmitt car. @indicator.bsky.social #nowwatching #filmnoir

Thoughts on Superman. Christopher Reeves' tenure will endure forever. With this film I reckon David Corenswet, will probably bury the Cavill years. The core is familiar but in essence it's a full on reboot & quite a weird one at times. If you want it to be, it's also highly political. Recommended

Tonight's noir is The Las Vegas Story (1952). I found a cheap dvd set of Mature's noir films. The transfers are poor. The films are ok. Interesting to see Mature away from the sword & sandal epics he's better known for. #filmnoir @filmnoiruk.bsky.social @noirfoundation.bsky.social

Final Destination Bloodlines. Not much new going here. Why change a successful formula? Still a lot of fun with some nasty deaths. The black humour has been ramped up and is more overtly going for laughs. Recommended. @warnerbrospictures.bsky.social #finaldestination #bloodlines

Tonight's double are an Inner Sanctum Mystery, Dead Man's Eyes (1944), followed by The Return of Dr Mabuse (1961). I'd put them on the fringes of Noir as both have aspects of the genre, if not classic examples. #innersanctum #drmabuse @filmnoiruk.bsky.social
