I played a fair bit around launch but the original campaign got deleted before I finished it, and it's pretty much been until now since I came back around to it again for the same reason as you. It's really fantastic but it's very very messy, especially if you want to experience the story in order

The experience of trying to catch up on the story is crazy because it feels like there is a guy in a suit standing over my shoulder who is furious that I'm not already caught up and doing endgame stuff because, I assume, most of their microstransaction revenue comes from endgame players

It really feels like they made a Destiny 3 but just injected into the empty shell of Destiny 2 instead of making it a new game. Even as someone who doesn't know the full scope of what used to be there, there is CLEARLY stuff missing despite the fact that there is currently a ton of stuff to do.

When it launched on PC I played maybe half of the red war campaign, intermittently, bouncing off then coming back, but was truly enjoying it! And then one day I came back and it was just gone. It's weird playing now, catching up on the story in the shadow of a lot of story that is no longer there

There is a phenomenal game here, made by wildly talented designers and artists and writers who were clearly deeply passionate about what they made, and it's wrapped in the messiest and most bafflingly stupid project direction imaginable.
