If the probe hits the A or B ring it’s in play. If it hits the C ring it wins the Cassini Division.

Thanks for saying we don’t need to apologize but…I still feel like I need to apologize. Enjoy your trip to Canada.

Not that any police department has great records on sexual assault but university police departments very definitely work for the university first. Report crimes to the city police. This is a great move by Ithaca.

Commenting on the crowd is a time honored tradition for baseball announcers. I’d never considered that anyone took it seriously. I guess in an age where clips go viral and get punched on by jerks, that tradition should maybe go away.

Yeah, I mean, if I ever won a Hugo or an Oscar* I'd be very happy and probably brag a little. But, really, these are sooooo subjective. All on the board are great. As well as a lot not on the board. *Going to take an Impossibility Drive for either to occur.

Where (very generally) are you located? Venus is currently quite far south (in Virgo) and is very close to its maximum brightness.

Proposal: chemists should do these kind of press releases for experiments with uncertain/unconfirmed results just like physicists do "BREAKING: The the Chemist group might have done a catalysis. More research needed to confirm." [narrator: they just misinterpreted the NMR spectrum... again]

A very cool thing about eclipses is that it makes very clear the motion of the moon around the earth. It’s always there but against black or blue sky can be hard to tell

There is no funding model for running modern R1 research universities without foreign students & federal funding. We should stop pretending there is & things are somehow going to be fine & actually have our leaders get out in public & explain this to voters, loudly & clearly & constantly.

On a recent flight there was a guy who we were all equal parts worried about and scared of who, eventually, got pulled away by airport security (tried to dash through the gate). My row ended up empty and I wondered if he'd have been with me. Of course, the plane was only maybe 2/3 full.

Strict speed limits are a great idea, too (I'm no civil engineer, or course). One big problem in the USA is that cars are very large and, generally, traveling way too fast to be mixed with pedestrians or cyclists. What speed limits there are, are not enforced well.

I’ve definitely encountered bad cyclists. But we don’t tell stories about bad drivers because we encounter dozens on every short trip (and probably are ourselves every now and again).
