I've always been left wing. In my youth, sexanddrugsandrocknroll which became wine women and song. Now I enjoy listening to The Fish Fry while sipping an occasional glass of wine (ideally a Tasmanian pinot or a riesling from Eden Valley).

After 18 months of operation and a cost of $140 million to Australians, the staggeringly incompetent NACC has concluded its top 3 major corruption investigations, and guess what? It has found no corruption. The #NACC is a failure and a national embarrassment. 👇🏽 theklaxon.com.au/nacc-finds-n...

During our Black Summer, more than 1,000 people came from North America to assist in firefighting efforts. The overlap in fire seasons in both hemispheres has huge implications for how we fight fire. Australia needs its own fleet of Large Air Tankers (LATs). www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

Fire seasons around the world are starting to overlap. This may leave Australia on its own
Experts say Australia can no longer rely on northern hemisphere nations for water-bombing aircraft and firefighters during our summer.

This is the problem with the reporting on education and how it is interpreted. Many many people (like me) send/ sent their kids to local state schools that may be underfunded but that provide a great education. We need to fight for fair funding AND pride in public education.

The time has come to get rid of all prayers and mentions of a god in all forms of government. Allowing religious organisations to claim charity status is another thing that needs addressing urgently. Many offer no form of charitable work at all, just accumulating wealth and power for the hierarchy.

At the end of the day, what you do with whomever you do it with shouldn’t be of concern if you’re not harming anyone else—and if it’s within consensually ethical practices. Our sexuality and our life choices do not mean that we need to have opinions on how anyone else chooses to live and love.

Carter used the power of his post presidency to nearly eradicate guinea worm. There were 3.5 million cases when the Carter Center’s work began in 1986. He said in 2015 that he wanted to see “guinea worm completely eradicated before I die.” There’ve been 7 cases this year. www.npr.org/sections/goa...

Jimmy Carter took on the awful Guinea worm when no one else would — and he triumphed
Carter targeted diseases primarily affecting the poor in remote areas — notably "Guinea worm disease." Because of his commitment, case numbers plummeted from 3.6 million a year to just 13 in 2022.

Now more than ever we need to keep sites such as Wikipedia in public control. I have donated to Wikipedia every year for many years now. As an academic it is an important resource to start with, for info on any topic. Please donate if you can.
Wikipedia is not for sale
An important update for readers in Australia.

You deserve an explanation, so please don't skip this 1-minute read. We're sorry to interrupt, but this message will only be up for a short time. We ask you to reflect on the number of times you visited Wikipedia this past year and whether you're able to give $2.75 to the Wikimedia Foundation. If everyone reading this gave just $2.75, we'd hit our goal in a few hours.

The internet we were promised—a place of free, collaborative, and accessible knowledge—is under constant threat. On Wikipedia, volunteers work together to create and verify the pages you rely on, supported by tools that undo vandalism within minutes, ensuring the information you seek is trustworthy.

Just 2% of our readers donate, so if you have given in the past and Wikipedia still provides you with $2.75 worth of knowledge, kindly donate today. If you are undecided, remember that any contribution helps, whether it's $2.75 or $25.
