i've dreamed of this day. single file for my server with every service and a constant for the port it runs on. this gets wired into the config for each service so each one gets served the matching one, and the same constant gets wired into caddy. beautiful
a nix config file full of constants detailing what service runs on what port

> LibreOffice Sheets doesn’t compete with Excel 2024, it competes more with Excel 2003. Granted, this is fine for a lot of (most?) people but it’s still not a “replacement” in my mind. > I ended up just building a Nix Flake to properly run Excel. At least then the operating system itself isn’t […]

to people saying we shouldn't anthropomorphize agents e.g. agent *decided* to break out of its sandbox, the agent *sacrificed* itself that's fine but you need to come up with new words to describe the phenomena that is occurring. english has a great set of verbs to describe doing things and i […]

Great article on unconsciously putting llm-isms in your own writing. I've definitely felt the tug to write em dashes where I likely wouldn't have used them before, and then reacting very negatively to that urge. nolanlawson.com/2026/08/31/on-not-b…

I'm sure when Homebrew came out it called itself something like "the missing package manager for mac". I have a mac. I'm typing this message on it right now. Nowadays homebrew calls itself "the package manager for EVERYWHERE" and doesn't work on my mac because it's too old.
