"Oh, every day I have experienced many close calls," said Hammer. "I ride my bike to the Metro to get to work downtown, and just on the stretch between my house and the Metro, in the last couple of weeks, I've been passed by drivers who came very close to hitting me, drivers who were looking at their phones when they passed me. I've been forced into the gutter by drivers who refuse to go around. And it's every day that I go out, I worry about getting into an accident, you know, am I going to come home okay?"

More amendments from the governor to weaken the great work the General Assembly did to protect our communities and neighbors

But state Sen. Saddam Azlan Salim, D-Fairfax, said Spanberger's amendments to his Senate Bill 351 and Senate Bill 352, which mean to protect immigrants from abuse and cruelty at the hands of federal immigration agents, "would make the bills toothless, a right without a remedy." Spanberger's amendment to the first bill, which limits what federal immigration agents can do around courthouses and schools, adds a line that the measure would not abrogate the protection from lawsuits that so-called qualified immunity provides for law enforcement officers. Her amendment to the second bill, barring law enforcement officers from wearing masks to hide their identity, said it wouldn't apply if an officer's department made a good-faith effort to set a written policy about masks.

Curious that the things that "would have to be eliminated" doesn't touch any central office leadership/management positions--even though Alexandria has as many FTEs in those roles (93) as Arlington (103), despite Arlington's overall headcount being nearly 2x Alexandria's

If Council does not provide the additional $5.6 million, ACPS presented a detailed accounting of what would have to be eliminated: 23 homeroom teachers, social workers and psychologists, the middle school athletic program, Communities in Schools wraparound services, the Jefferson-Houston IB program, an Afghan family liaison, and other positions — totaling 40.1 FTEs and $5.6 million.
