Other alpine finds include Dactylina arctica (Arctic Butterfingers), the always lovely yellow and red crustose Ophioparma ventosa (Alpine Bloodspot), possible Allantoparmelia alpicola (Rock Grubs), and lots of usual alpine suspects like both the snow lichens (Flavocetraia).

Epilogue I have now found two Arctoparmelia species in the area. A. centrifuga has a solid cortex, no soredia, light lower surface, and I've been finding it in large round patches. A. subcentrifuga is sorediate and basically disintegrates to the touch. The upper cortex is worn and split. 🌿

Looks a bit like Platismatia lichen, but missing the soredia of P. glauca, with a solidly dark lower surface, lots of pycnidia (black spots), and usually fertile. The lobes were smaller and pointier than the nearby P. glauca. It took me a few to realize what I was seeing. 🌿

This weekend I visited Mahood Lake at the west edge Wells Gray Provincial Park (my side). The interior Cedar-Hemlock habitat has some unique birds for the region. But I mainly went for the unique lichens. I was enthused to find abundant Tinted Rag lichens (Esslingeriana idahoensis). 🧵🌿

I found a moth spot late last summer. It's a brick pump house with lights on at night. I check for moths in morning when I can. These are from the last week. There's a new surprise almost every day. 🌿

I'm listening to The Beach Boys' Similey Smile. I wonder if the lack of critical love for the album has more to do with the story and expectations that it would be the biggest art pop album of all time than the content itself. But it's great! It is experimental in a warm, beautiful way. I love it.

I'm working on a list of my top 100 albums from the 2000s (2000-2009) for a newsletter. I want to know if you have favourites that aren't obvious ones. As in not like Radiohead or Norah Jones or Kanye. Not something I'd find on a Rolling Stone or Stereogum list. Please share your recommendations!
