There’s going to be a rarity in Barnsley soon, as a charity shop is going to have some decent records for probably the first time in…ever. As soon as I get round to taking them down that is. It’s a charity for neuro injuries, so close to my heart [er, spinal cord - Ed.]

I’ve got 11 of those 7” singles and I bet I paid more than £30.

You wouldn’t be getting all those 7” singles for £6.50 on Discogs or eBay. Great selection.

Fantastic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of his 10” ‘albums’ before.

Seriously, and then there were a couple of Erasure songs and back to Divine Comedy. The DJ looked liked the old footballer, Alan Biley, and he had a tassled Stars and Stripes shirt on. I had a word and he said the groom said he only liked Erasure and the Divine Comedy. I gave up.

I don’t think I still have it, but their number one hit Forever and Ever came home with me in a sleeve I bought on one of my Vinyl Tap trips. It sort of starts off okay, but then turns into a Bay City Rollers pastiche. It’s horrible.

I once went to the wedding of some 20-something year old friends of my wife and the first 4 songs the DJ played, and I kid you not, were: - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd) - Take Five (Dave Brubeck) - Stranger On the Shore (Acker Bilk) - The Frog Princess (The Divine Comedy) Nobody danced!

Yes, that’s a new one on me too. I’ve got a few of that UA one, as there are 7 or 8 with minor differences. I’m finding it difficult to get hold of one of the UK variants at the moment. I have 5 singles waiting for one of the UK sleeves.

I didn’t know you could set them to private. Might do that myself, not cos anybody’s trying to buy anything, more so people don’t see some of the rubbish I own and judge me!

#WeekendSingles Bangles and Strangles. From a coach on my way to see Barnsley’s weekly defeat, this time at Stockport. They say it’s the hope that kills you, but we should be okay cos I don’t think any of us have any hope left!

#WeekendSingles #AlbumAlmanac Here’s the last 20 LPs that have been added to my collection (according to my Discogs library, so I may have missed one…or two). Had this idea 15 minutes ago and had to be quick, cos the postie is about to deliver 2 Marillion picture discs - surefire red cards from JV!

There’s a pile of singles I offered to Jimmy (he chose 6) and my brother (he just wanted Pass the Dutchie), so the neuro injury shop (my chosen shop on account of my neuro issues) is getting some crackers this week, and a pile of company sleeves to sort through (at the front of my sleeves boxes)

Sorry, should have said the titles are in the alt. text for the ones you can’t read. The CBS one is Unsquare Dance by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, which is my favourite Vinyl Tap bargain basement purchase this week.

#WeekendSingles Some Yorkshire bargain bin singles. Unfortunately I don’t have the correct sleeve for the Ike and Tina one yet. I was particularly pleased to find a Beggars Banquet sleeve in the 50p box though. Been after one for ages and I’ve now found 3 in my past 3 shipping trips.

Colonel Abrams is his actual birth name! I missed a trick. I should have named my son Lord instead of Lucas. We’d have had no problem getting tables in restaurants.

#WeekendSingles To say that I forgot to take my lists yesterday, I managed to get hold of about a dozen company sleeves I wanted. And this single was in one of them. But, did you know… In the US, Friedman is considered a one hit wonder, but that hit isn’t Lucky Stars! It’s a song called Ariel.

I don’t think the top 2 were ever in doubt, although I expected it to be a lot closer. Thanks again for all the polls Richard. It’s been good fun (apart from seeing how low Moon Safari is on the list). I take it you decided against the ‘best album by artists of questionable morals’ poll then…

Dagnabbit! I knocked together two lists of the company sleeves I needed yesterday. Took a while. And then I printed them out. I put them on the coffee table, next to my laptop, so I wouldn’t forget them…I don’t need to finish this post do I!

…as I saw all the other people they mentioned, but not the real Ms Cracknell, I’ve always wondered whether Sophie’s mate fooled them.

Paul Ramon @paulramon9.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
My mate’s sister used to do the PR for Oasis, so we wangled Creation hospitality tickets for Knebworth in 96. His other sister came with us, with her mate who’s the spitting image of Ms Cracknell. When I’ve read about the shows and they mention who was there, Ms Cracknell always gets mentioned, and…

I love I’m An Upstart. But the volume I play it at will make my neighbour pleased we’re in the detached house next to her, and not in the one on the other side.

#WeekendSingles @jimmyviz.bsky.social has got me out of bed in the middle of the night (who knew Saturdays had an 8am?) to accompany him around the record shops of Sheffield. I initially said no, due to skintness, but sold a few things on eBay. Add in a bit of birthday money… Anyway, some new ones
Bottom left is She’s Everything by Ral Donner, the reason for the purchase of these singles. When they arrived I found that She’s Everything is also on the B-Side of the other Ral Donner single.

Have a listen to the track and see who he sounds just like.

1 Air - Moon Safari 2 Massive Attack - Blue Lines 3 Pet Shop Boys - Please 4 The Stone Roses - S/T 5 ABC - The Lexicon of Love My actual top 5 favourite debuts would have Pernice Brothers at 1, Air at 2, Massive Attack at 3, NaS at 4 and Stephen Duffy at 5, but not enough people voted for them!

Next April will be the 50th anniversary of my grandad taking me to my first match. Barnsley 4 Workington 0. We were in the 4th division then, 2 years before Allan Clarke and Norman Hunter arrived and transformed the club. So I’m still up by one division.

Twice I’ve searched through my 60s boxes for my copy of He’s So Fine, before realising I don’t have one. One of my favourite singles too.

It’s a bit like his cover of Guitar Man, where he didn’t just want to use the same arrangement as Jerry Reed’s original, he brought Reed in to play the guitar and copied Reed’s vocal, right down to the “hey, hey” over the outro. I guess he’s lucky that Whitaker didn’t start whistling in this one!

#WeekendSingles It’s my birthday this week. Bad Moon Rising was No.1 when I was born, so here it is, along with the highest placed single I have from my first 23 birthdays ABBA’s Dancing Queen was actually higher than Jimmy Nail on my 23rd, but it’s not getting in twice! Info in alt. text.

Yes, every remix they did was charged to the band, with ZTT pocketing the money. Apart from Holly the rest of the band made bugger all, despite all the records they sold. I was shocked when I read Nasher’s book and he mentioned all this. He ended up going back to his pre-fame job as an electrician.

The Annihilation Mix of Two Tribes is my favourite and is among my 5 favourite 12” mixes by anybody. But I reckon I’d have the Hibakusha Mix in my top 10 too, cos it’s almost as good as Annihilation. I have mixed feelings about the FGTH remixes though, because they helped ZTT rip the band off.
