#WeekendSingles Some Yorkshire bargain bin singles. Unfortunately I don’t have the correct sleeve for the Ike and Tina one yet. I was particularly pleased to find a Beggars Banquet sleeve in the 50p box though. Been after one for ages and I’ve now found 3 in my past 3 shipping trips.

#WeekendSingles To say that I forgot to take my lists yesterday, I managed to get hold of about a dozen company sleeves I wanted. And this single was in one of them. But, did you know… In the US, Friedman is considered a one hit wonder, but that hit isn’t Lucky Stars! It’s a song called Ariel.

#WeekendSingles @jimmyviz.bsky.social has got me out of bed in the middle of the night (who knew Saturdays had an 8am?) to accompany him around the record shops of Sheffield. I initially said no, due to skintness, but sold a few things on eBay. Add in a bit of birthday money… Anyway, some new ones
Bottom left is She’s Everything by Ral Donner, the reason for the purchase of these singles. When they arrived I found that She’s Everything is also on the B-Side of the other Ral Donner single.

Have a listen to the track and see who he sounds just like.

#WeekendSingles It’s my birthday this week. Bad Moon Rising was No.1 when I was born, so here it is, along with the highest placed single I have from my first 23 birthdays ABBA’s Dancing Queen was actually higher than Jimmy Nail on my 23rd, but it’s not getting in twice! Info in alt. text.

#WeekendSingles #12inchTuesday I remembered it was Tuesday this week, cos I forgot to shut my bedroom window and the bin lorry woke me up at some ungodly hour. Here are some 12” singles that are in my list of top 100 favourite songs.
Top left is Thieves Like Us by New Order
Top right is Two Tribes (Annihilation Mix) by Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Bottom left is Left To My Own Devices by Pet Shop Boys

Top right is The Rattler by Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie
Bottom left is Loving the Alien by David Bowie (the single version is way better than the album version)
Bottom right is Suburbia (The Full Horror) by Pet Shop BoysTop left is Always the Sun (Sunny Side Up Mix) by The Stranglers - I prefer the re-recorded version to the original)

#WeekendSingles As I’ve spent most of the night trying to get back to sleep, let’s do these now. 20 more singles that are in my top 100 favourite tracks. And yes, one is by David Soul. I never claimed I was cool!* *actually, I have on many occasions, but I’m yet to find someone that agrees with me

#WeekendSingles Ramping up the self indulgence this week. A while ago me and Jimmy V set about writing a list of our favourite tracks. JV never finished his, but I did, and these singles are all from my top 100. They’re in no order, as No.1 on my list is a B-Side and my list includes album tracks.

#WeekendSingles #AlbumAlmanac A load of rap… …is almost what my ex called my hip hop collection. Here’s a dozen 21st century US rap LPs, half a dozen British rap LPs, 9 fab underground rap albums on CD and a couple of brilliant British jazz LPs. Yes, Kanye West is a pillock, but it’s a great LP!

#WeekendSingles I’ve never been as excited (or spent as much!) to buy a 7” single in my life. This single was withdrawn and only a few made it out into the wild. I’ve been trying to track it down since the 80s and finally found a copy a couple of weeks ago, bought from a DJ from New York.
I bought the withdrawn 12” version off a bloke from Mexico about 20 years ago.

#WeekendSingles #AlbumAlmanac I have no time for those who say there’s no decent new music anymore, and content themselves with just listening to 1 or 2 albums a year, by people who’ve been making albums for 60 years. Here’s the proof. 20 fab LPs (& 2 CDs) from the 21st century. Rap albums tomorrow

#WeekendSingles I’m a Yorkshireman and, as such, I’m genetically predisposed to love a bargain. And what better way to get a bargain than a single with a banger on each side. I’m not talking Old Gold here, but actual single releases where the B-Side matches up to the A-Side. Details in alt. text.

#WeekendSingles I’ve been doing a project where I’m ranking all the albums I have per year. I thought it would take a couple of years, but I’m into year 10, cos I keep adding to it (around 10,000 albums, way more than when I started) I’ve just taken these out to listen to. Guess the year I’m doing

#WeekendSingles 6 new Harry Nilsson singles, alongside 6 that I already had. I’d also bought Coconut, but the fibbing Discogs seller doesn’t know the difference between ‘near mint’ and ‘drowned out with surface noise’ so it went back.

#WeekendSingles Today’s theme is moments. Bits of records I really like. Feel free to add your own. The bits are… Roam - the way Kate says “girl” 30 seconds in In the Air Tonight - the drum solo, what else? C’Mon Everybody - “who cares?” Like a Rolling Stone - that snare crack at the beginning

#WeekendSinglea This one is bizarre. I’ve rekindled my love of it and have listened to it more than any other song over the past year. But every time I hear it I get the feeling you get when a song reminds you of a lost love. Except this song doesn’t remind me of anybody. Maybe it’s my lost youth?!

#WeekendSingles A day in Vinyl Tap’s bargain basement netted me some nice new company sleeves to add to the collection, which now stands at 786. The bottom 2 US Arista ones with the same single in look similar, but are different. Click on the alt text for a question about that song.
The bottom two records are both Ready To Take a Chance Again by Barry Manilow. Can anyone, who I didn’t tell the other day, tell me which 70s film the song was the theme tune for?

#WeekendSingles I don’t think anyone would be surprised at any LP I own, so here are some new singles. I only bought the US copy of the Gerry & the Pacemakers single for their version of Pretend on the B-Side
I bought Ashes To Ashes to replace a slightly crackly copy, but noticed the cover was different. Turns out there are three covers, so I’m now keeping the first one and on the hunt for the third!

#WeekendSingles Some more singles written/co-written for/given to other artists, alongside one written/co-written for themselves/their own band. This one includes the only song by the Eagles or its members that I like.
Elvis Costello wrote Girls Talk and Neil Diamond wrote A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You (and several others) for The Monkees.

The Monkees were brill weren’t theyBruce gave Because the Night to Patti Smith, whilst Mick n Keef wrote As Tears Go By for Mick’s girlfriend, Marianne‘Christopher’, who wrote Manic Monday, was Prince under an alias, whilst Smokey wrote My Guy for Mary Wells (and many more for many more artists)Mike Campbell first brought The Boys of Summer to his boss, but Tom didn’t think it was right for the band. Shame they never recorded it.

Nile and Bernard from Chic wrote, played on and produced He’s the Greatest Dancer for Sister Sledge. It’s a toss up for me between We Are Family and Diana Ross’s Diana album as to which is my favourite ‘sorta Chic’ album.

#WeekendSingles The theme this week is songwriters. On the left is a song written/co-written for, or given to (not cover versions), another artist, whilst the one on the right is a song they wrote/co-wrote for their own band or themselves.
Graham Goulden wrote Bus Stop and co-wrote the 10cc track.

The Bee Gees wrote (and did backing vocals for) Chain ReactionJohn Phillips wrote San Francisco and co-wrote Creeque Alley with his gorgeous missus

Simon Climie co-wrote the bottom twoI’m not scared was written and later recorded by Pet Shop Boys

Ray Dorset wrote Feels Like I’m in Love for Elvis, but he went and died, so he gave it to Kelly MarieArt of Noise wrote and produced Slave To the Rhythm

#WeekendSingles 8 sets of 4 singles (the other 4 are in the comments), but what’s the theme? And you have to be quite specific. Some of the titles are in the alt text, cos the photos don’t always come out well cos of the anti-static inner sleeves, and cos my living room is always so sodding dark.
Clockwise from top left:

Elvis - Good Luck Charm
Billy Fury - Last Night Was Made For Love
Joe Brown - A Picture of You
The Shadows - Wonderful LandClockwise from top left:

The Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
The Hollies - Bus Stop
Dave Dee, etc - Hideaway [RIP Beaky]
The Troggs - With a Girl Like You
Clockwise from top left:

Christie - Yellow River
Free - All Right Now
The Beach Boys - Cottonfields
Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime Clockwise from top left:
