when I was very into cultural conceptions/constructions of risk, uncertainty, indeterminacy and reading Mary Douglas and all the anthropology that followed it in the 80s and 90s (and early 00s, really), there was a growing thread of literature on risk-taking, gambling, speculation, and gender
