Folks have always had trouble with large numbers. He's taking advantage of that. And your right. Against the worldwide consumption of diesel per day, it's a drop in the bucket.

It only serves Trump’s belated recognition that he must look like he's doing something to lower prices before the midterms. I predict that not one drop of diesel will leave Russia and that no one will hear a word about this "deal" after 11/3.
000
Paul Graf @paulginva.bsky.social · 1h
There's a reason Trump is using tons here. 300K tons is only one VLCC tanker load. That is barely a drop in the bucket of diesel the world uses in a day. Also, the US *exports* diesel fuel. We produce roughly 147M bpm but consume only about 98M bpm. We won't hear another word about this after 11/3.

This "deal" is nothing but smoke & mirrors. Trump knows it. Putin knows it. I'm sure the Ukrainian government knows it. The numbers seem huge until you understand that a metric ton of diesel fuel is only about 7.4 barrels. 300K tons is one (1) VLCC tanker load. Ukraine should keep blowing stuff up.
100
Paul Graf @paulginva.bsky.social · 2h
300 thousand tons sounds like a lot, right? In actuality, it's just a shade above the capacity of one (1) VLCC tanker load of diesel fuel. Even 3 million tons is only 11 tanker loads. Neither amount will do anything to change the price of diesel. After 11/3, we'll never hear about it again.
132
Paul Graf @paulginva.bsky.social · 2h
EVERY SINGLE DAY. Both Trump and Putin must know that this "deal" won't make a bit of difference in the price of diesel fuel and won't last a day past 11/3.
020
Paul Graf @paulginva.bsky.social · 2h
which won't be enough to help anybody. 3M tons would be about 11 VLCC loads. Before the war, about 20 VLCCs a DAY passed outbound from the Strait of Hormuz and that represented only 20% of the world's oil, meaning that there were roughly 100 loaded VLCCs leaving terminals

Paul Graf @paulginva.bsky.social · 2h
Aside from the fact that Russia doesn't have diesel fuel sitting around to ship since most of its refineries have been damaged, this is all smoke and mirrors. There's a reason Trump is using tons here. People don't know how much a barrel of oil weighs. 300K metric tons is about one VLCC tanker load,

Good. For those who don’t follow the Russian invasion of Ukraine closely, you should read this thread. You'll find it interesting. 🧵⤵️
Authorities in Montenegro have arrested Mikhail Zvinchuk, the founder of the influential pro-war Russian Telegram channel Rybar, in an operation targeting suspected Russian influence activities, officials confirmed Friday.

The U.S. State Department is offering up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of Zvinchuk, a former Russian Defense Ministry press officer, and other Rybar staff over their alleged involvement in election interference and malign influence operations.

Montenegro's police and National Security Agency (ANB) carried out the operation targeting "hybrid activities" by Russian information networks, security sources told the news outlet Vijesti.

Those detained include Zvinchuk's wife, Rybar creative director Valeria Zvinchuk and with three associates, the outlet reported.

One of the biggest disadvantages in being the first to roll out a system like GPS is that when competitor nations launch their own systems, they're far more advanced than ours. It looks like some smart people decided it was time for an upgrade.
