Thanks for visiting our recipe. You may want to cook this meal, but we’d prefer it if you bought this car down here. Or this lotion up here. What, you can still see part of this recipe? Our product!?! Why don’t we cover the screen with an invitation to sign up for all our other recipes.

Oops. My weird use of OP was because I forgot I was replying and not quoting 🤷‍♂️

I posted on FB about the virtues of 3 legs over a decade ago. But soon after, I intuited the issues raised by the OP and I have felt uneasy ever since. (But only when I think of it. I’m not a maniac.)

There is a fundamental tension between 3 and 4 legs. On one hand 3 legs will keel over because of issue with center of gravity. On the other, 3 legs define a plane, so you don’t get that annoying wobble.

The mere fact that there are gaps to return to is good evidence that you could have more unreasonable. 😂

For anybody interested in philosophy and its history, this is podcast is for you. If podcasts aren’t your thing, he has been publishing book versions of the series. They are wonderful overviews and intros to philosophical texts. And the no gaps approach is real but not unreasonable.

Having Monday trash pickup is incredible privilege because you have all of Sunday to decide when to put trash out. It’s a privilege I waste almost every week 😔

I’ve been teaching myself about Möbius inversion on posets which makes me wonder for which of these (if any, and properly generalized) we know a closed form for their Möbius functions. 🤔

I believe we can prove the NY Times SpellingBee game wrong, BlueSky! We just have to reply and quote with pictures of all your pets’ boopable noses.

Hey so Nobody actually knows exactly WHY the great stock market crash of 1929 happened, leading to the Great Depression But most folks agree "Low level participants started betting with borrowed money" probably didn't help matters

My Russian speaking friend was in a youth orchestra and the conductor kept prompting for more cows. He eventually looked to my friend for help and spoke in Russian when she realized: “Oh chaos!”

It seems like a good analogy is the way we speak about energy levels “wanting” to be in a certain state. We (usually) don’t extrapolate the wanting beyond the analogy.

Every time I see Wd Sheeran or can’t think of his name, I think (ironically) that guy who is the best song writer since the Beatles.

Paul Rowe @pauldrowe.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
My running joke about Ed Sheeran is that he is the best song writer since the Beatles. This is from the film Yesterday where he challenges the protagonist to a fast song writing contest and he loses to the protagonist “writing” The Long and Winding Road.

I often feel conflicted by art from the 1920s. This is no exception. I like the forward facing eye projected from the (sideways) figure. The angles evoke Cezanne (good), but overall effect is somehow … I don’t know. If this speaks to you, I’d love to hear why and learn.

Janna Levin has voiced my opinion: Just because some expert knows a theorem is true doesn’t mean I shouldn’t want to try to understand why. Replacing an expert with AI doesn’t change anything.

this is perhaps the most useful thing that LLMs and GenAI have done: to provoke people into articulating (over again) that even the 'hardest' of 'hard sciences' are human endeavours, with human meaning, and concerned with human understanding of the significance of the world we all inhabit

Odd are that this is AI slop. (According to somebody who just had to “quality review” a paper that seems to have been entirely AI generated)

I’m also curious how much of the development is of the quality for Mathlib. Buzzard was pretty clear from the start that one main benefit was actually formalizing all the rest of it to support other uses.

It was most definitely a side quest in which a relatively asocial friend of a friend was enduring a party. It also might have been summer between junior and senior year.
