You can get a very small benefit but it’s generally not worth it as the torque curve is so much broader than an ICE car. Some car companies have talked about putting them in just so they “feel like” and old-fashioned car. They generally don’t have a clutch though.

You seem to be one of those people who is determined to persuade everyone else that there is no hope and nothing can ever get better. I’m going to choose to ignore you.

Sure, but we all have a role. We’re not passive in this.

When they got into a coalition in Germany they literally launched the global solar revolution. They might not stay that way forever but they would definitely make changes if they ever got in.

It might not, but it’s sure as hell the only way to ever get genuinely progressive policy enacted again.

Fine on open highways where road trains drive, not in school drop offs or supermarket car parks.

I wish we would class them as heavy vehicles in Australia. It is absurd that they can be driven under the same rules as a small hatchback. Perhaps rather than supporting EVs we could class vehicles on total lifecycle emissions and traffic impacts.

I listen to this and wonder how it is functionally any different from an out and out climate denier.

It is disgraceful but I think it’s a mistake to think that this is a reflection of current times. Women have always been murdered by men. What is different now is that we should have the ethical and legal frameworks to stop it.

Part of the rise to power of the original fascists was whipping up fear of communists. Of course 1920s and 30s Europe did actually have strong communist parties.

It’s interesting that in the last year or so batteries have pushed a lot of gas out of the grid but they are also affecting the economics of coal as it is losing the windfall of the peak which offsets the losses in the middle of the day.
000
Paul Kidd @pauldokidd.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
To some extent, but if batteries are sufficiently cheap they can do both with solar. I don’t think that’s going to happen but it can partially. I really just mean the balance has shifted and you can imagine 50% solar, 35% wind, 15% hydro grid or something which didn’t seem possible a few years ago.

Paul Kidd @pauldokidd.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
While what you say is true, the relative importance of balancing generation profiles compared to storing energy has changed with the huge drop in battery prices. Five or ten years ago we all assumed wind would ultimately be double the generation of solar but that may have reversed.

Just coincidence that they’re voting for the party whose only solution is racism and authoritarianism.

The One Nation rise is a social media driven coordinated exercise that has nothing to do with real people. There seems to be 30-40% of the population in every country that can be turned on to fascism the quite easily with the right campaign.

Can confirm - you get very good at evasive driving when your whole car is below the windowsill of most people in the next lane.

Yes, but then all of the people who vote for her as the Labor candidate “because she’s a good local MP” will immediately switch to whoever the party drops in to replace her. Predictable and sad.

Even if the change will predictably make people’s lives better after a very short period of adjustment.

The sad thing is whatever her personal strengths she literally has no choice once she’s joined the Labor caucus.

Paul Kidd @pauldokidd.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
I’m afraid not - this has been the Labor Party for a long time now. If you want an independent foreign policy the Greens are the only ones consistently on the right side of it.

That is the place you get when the coordinates make no sense as it’s (0,0) - that is, zero degrees latitude and longitude.

The Greens don’t have billionaires, bot farms, and fascist algorithms working for them like another party does.

But the point made in the original post still applies wherever the rail line is.

Paul Kidd @pauldokidd.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
That may be but is irrelevant to the point and pointlessly argumentative. A road tunnel might cut down fewer trees than a surface road, but it’s still a road.

I’m not even in the UK so I have no local knowledge, but I’m just looking at the numbers. We are dealing with a very similar thing here in Australia with One Nation, but once again contrary to the commentary it seems they’ve hit a ceiling.

The 41% is a lot less than the sixty-something percent that voted leave.

I make it 41% and the point of the original comment is that they may not be growing any more.

The point is they’re not winning most of them which is what they would need to do to win government.

Thinking the party is too far to the left would be the position of many Democratic voters. Many people want the party to be more centrist so they get other voters, not in order to get their vote.

Controversial take perhaps, but I think you can install air-conditioning and shutdown data centers at the same time. maybe even steal all the air-conditioning units from the data centers and install them in public housing. Then run them off solar and battery while taxing the hyper rich to death

I like him but not sure he has Mamdani energy exactly. Much more moderate, which probably makes him more electable to be honest. The only issue is whether the American swinging voters can bring themselves to elect a gay man. I hope they can.
