When I was thinking about this divide the thing that popped into my head was Meryl Streep's cerulean sweater monologue from The Devil Wears Prada. It's a speech about the importance of design but raises some questions in the age of AI.

Anyone wondering how the Man City thing is going to go needs to look back at the quotes in the original leak that lead to this: "rather spend 30 million on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue [Uefa] for the next 10 years” and “the destruction of their rules and organisation”

The Manchester City case shows us how the global mega-rich now expect to operate with impunity | Jonathan Liew
When transnational alliances have scarcely been weaker, the way the club was allegedly run offers a bleak vision of a world driven by brute power and wealth, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

The police have foiled the start of a stereotypical British film, but is it a zombie movie, an organised crime heist, a rural murder mystery or a porno? Comedy or drama?

The men's race also demonstrated this. McNulty owes Jorgenson and Simmons all the pints after that one.

Just catching up on the end of the cycling world championship road race and I don't think there's any event in sport other than marathon which demonstrates so visually how close to the edge of human ability athletes are.

Interesting intersection between Spurs and politics. I was a bit worried when I saw the headline but 0.1% of revenue (£565k last year) seems fine. As long as it doesn't become "nice stadium you've got there, be a shame if it becomes totally unprofitable."

That's 100% incorrect. Solar & wind are cheaper, more reliable, and have faster build times by a whole factor of time (weeks & months vs months & years) than all fossil fuels. If anything, sticking with oil, coal, & gas is a recipe for volatility & poverty, while renewables ensure prosperity.

I am going to die on the hill that it's impossible that a 0-7 score has a 3.99% of ending in a Scorigami because if it did there wouldn't be any feasible Scorigamis left. I point this out once a season then go back to quietly fuming about the statistics abuse.

This would be very good news for the government (and consumers) if it goes like this. Up to 19 GW of clean power would be a big step towards the 95% clean energy target as well.

This is an interesting project - green hydrogen from onshore wind, CO2 from crop waste, for around a 75% reduction in carbon emissions. Be interesting to see the cost. Europe really needs to get a move on with green fuels and chemicals or China will boss them like it did with batteries and EVs.

Love that my family are like Memento with the heating and thermostat. It's been set at 5C the entire summer (we don't have AC) but I can see it's now been inched up to 15C (current temperature at 22:30 is 22C). In a month or so they might successfully manage to activate the heating.

Obviously lots about Reform in the news so a lot is going under the radar but it is worth remembering that not only are they grifting criminals they are also vile racists who increasingly aren't even bothering to try and hide that fact behind weasel words.
Goodwin added that the Tories have “completely betrayed” the British people by replacing the best and brightest in the country with “drug dealing goat herders”.

Matthew Brennan seems to be sneaking under the radar in the UK sports media - 3 stage wins in the Vuelta so far which is pretty impressive for a 21 year old. I wonder if he needs to win some stages in the TdF (possibly unlikely with his current team) to really take off.

My thoughts on this are prob too deep for the local press - & hard to explain unless you've experienced it, but: there's something about cycling for transport that teaches respect for the world. For geography. The hills & river valleys, some of them lost. For the seasons, and how they've changed.

I don't see support for "net zero" slipping to be too concerning - it's quite abstract and far in the future. I'd be more concerned if support for "electorate-facing" solutions like renewables, EVs and heat pumps was going down.
