Dec 19th - Day nineteen of the #ArtAdventCalendar. Aug 28, 2024 - A sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean as seen from the North Head Trail at Signal Hill in St John’s. An important day for me personally that I felt I needed to capture the sunrise and the sunrise didn’t disappoint.

The sun rising above the Atlantic Ocean and shining though the clouds, giving the sky an orange glow.

#ArtAdventCalendar - we had these tulips growing that decay and fall apart in beautiful ways. I took photos of them then played with the processing. Then I cut and paste petals to make the hoops. I also made a cloud brush in PS for the background.

2x2 repeat of a rococo style pattern. The background is very pale blue with soft grey clouds. The foreground consists of overlapping ovals made from "cut" petals from photos of elaborate tulips. They range from golden to the palest pink. They have a lot of shiny elements and ruffles. In the middle of the hoops are three overblown tulips also in gold and pink.

#artAdventCalendar day 14, a lucky phone capture I love a lot of a black eyed junco in my herb garden this winter.

A black eyed junco, a small bird with black brown and gray coloring, flies to the left of the frame. Its wings have been caught spread and blurred mid flight. Day 6 of #ArtAdventCalendar - it is also the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. I don't normally photograph people, but in memory of the 14 women lost 35 years ago, I am sharing some of the photos of women taken throughout my travels in SE Asia this year.

For #ArtAdventCalendar Day 6, I give you my #HolidayCard for 2024. This one is based on a true story… A few years ago, in a nearby permafrost bog full of tiny stunted black spruce trees, someone hiked out over the frozen lumpy ground and put Xmas lights on one of the tiny trees. It was amazing. 🥰

December 4 #ArtAdventCalendar As it was +2 here yesterday, and -20 with a good wind today, I'm bringing back this shot from a couple of years ago - a cold and frosty day. More in alt text #photography #winter #frost #art

Centre of photo and attention is a tall tree, covered in winter frost. Along the right and left sides at the base of its trunk are smaller trees, also covered with frost, marching off the left and right sides of the frame. The sky is a deep, clear blue - a winter blue - at the top of the photo, really lightening only where hazy bits of cloud are scattered. The whole image is blue, white, and grey really - and it looks cold. Which it was!

Here's my contribution to #ArtAdventCalendar for today. I am honored to own an example of this print, which hangs by my bedside and is the first thing I see every morning.

A lane leads from center left into the distance, bordered by the dark grey and black ploughed furrows of a field on the left and a grassy bank to the right. A black tree trunk rises from behind the bank with a wide crown of bare branches still holding a few stray leaves, forming the focal point of the print, it extends upwards beyond the frame. Behind it in black are other naked trees and a low dwelling. In the distance are more layers of trees in dark grey, and steep mountainous escarpments in pale grey with snowy vertical cols extending down towards the flatlands below.
