I’m not sure why The Algorithm has decided that I’m German now, specifically Bavarian and I want lots of options on where to buy my lederhosen for Oktoberfest. And I want see AI cats telling jokes in German, mostly about Oktoberfest but sometimes just the weekend and stuff.

One of apparently thousands of reels advertising Bavaria’s finest lederhosen suppliers

Another great Dublin Theatre Festival. Animals at the Abbey, Zinc by Dead Centre (consistently the best theatre company this decade) Brokentalkers’ Heroes of Tomorrow and Druid’s Moon for the Misbegotten.

I’m reminded of the Bloolips’ show (Slung Back and Strapless?) where Madame Mao said of the Long March of the Red Army, “I took a taxi.” I think quest narratives are all kind of straight.

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched The best Shakespearean adaptation, a formal exercise in creating a simulacrum of a late-90s aesthetic, juste fine, and good enough to get me to buy a jazz album. #FilmSky

Just out of a rewatch of Throne of Blood. Incredible that Isuzu Yamada did this and Tokyo Twilight in the same year; the height of stylisation and the subtlest naturalism.

#NowPlaying Just saw Bouncing Off the Satellites is 40 years old. Way to make me feel ancient. Very much associated with my own first Summer of love as a fresh faced vanilla kid in the big city. Bliss it was in that dawn to be alive. We all braked for rainbows that summer. #MusicSky

For fellow theatre queens (and P&P fans) picked up a charity shop copy of Valmouth, turned out to be signed by the cast and Sandy Wilson and Sir Robert f***ing Helpmann! Told the shop they’d underpriced and was happy to pay more but they said it was my lucky find. Indeed.

A day late #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched The best film performance ever that’s not given by Shelley Duvall, Cooper Hoffman being so gorgeous it’s embarrassing, an OK comedy with its heart in the right place, and I’ll evoke the Thumper doctrine and pass on the Almodovar. #FilmSky

Sometimes I say that Penda’s Fen is my favourite piece of art in any medium. That seems slightly ridiculous, but I think it still might be. First repeat since 1975, apparently. Worth checking out if you haven’t seen it. And be prepared to watch it a few times to allow it to start revealing itself.

For weeks me and my husband have been mystified what has been causing the garlic smell in our kitchen. We’ve looked under and behind the fridge, cleaned the oven, hoovered under the larder. Weeks. Only today did I consider the smell might be in coming from THE ACTUAL GARLIC. Being gay can be hard

The entire country is literally on fire. We have had 2000 extra deaths this summer, so far, there are no mitigation strategies in place to deal with this, our PM wants to drill more in the North Sea, and - oh my god a black man has the temerity to get a job at Cambridge!!!?
