I've had a hard time picking this Ohio State-Iowa game this week. However, I gave my prediction and thoughts on what will happen in Iowa City, along with the rest of the Bucknuts staff. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Ohio State and Iowa meet in a top-15 matchup this weekend. I got plenty of great intel on the Hawkeyes and what to expect from this game from @davideickholt.bsky.social. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Julian Sayin rushed for a career-high 29 yards in Ohio State's win over Illinois after Ryan Day challenged him to use his legs more, and he delivered a couple of big plays. This must continue for the Buckeye offense. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Iowa's Kirk Ferentz compared Jeremiah Smith to Saquon Barkley and Randy Moss. "That's what great players do. If you can find a way to maybe make them a little bit off their rhythm, that's a good thing, but it's easier said than done." 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Ohio State's Homecoming game against Maryland will kick off at 4:15 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network. That's probably as close to a night game as the Buckeyes are going to get at home. 😕 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Ohio State leaned into what works offensively against Illinois, while the defense won't enjoy this week's film. My Report Card from the Buckeyes' first Big Ten win of the season. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

My three thoughts as I left Ohio Stadium following Ohio State's win over Illinois: 🔴 Jeremiah Smith is a cheat code 🔴 The run game is not where it needs to be 🔴 This defense will keep getting better

It’s time for Big Ten play at the Shoe.

"I haven't ever won over there, right? I made some great games." Illinois' Bret Bielema had plenty to say heading into this week's game at Ohio State. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

With defenses tilting coverage toward Jeremiah Smith, Devin McCuin knows his number's about to be called. Ohio State's No. 2 receiver worked hard for these opportunities and has a big opportunity back home at Texas this weekend. 247sports.com/college/ohio...

After losing to a bad Montreal team, a decent New England side comes in and dominates you. To me, that says the season's over and they all know it. Time to move along to 2027-2028.

Eric Bailly didn’t look interested in battling at all today. There was always a concern with him physically. I saw few positives from him, especially paired with Zawadzki. My concerns with Gonzalo Tapia are playing out. He isn't a scorer and doesn't have the pace to chase balls late in the game.

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

This “front 2” of Mendez and Martinez struggles. Martinez needs help, and Mendez isn’t around the box enough. Having wingers who are fullbacks or No. 10s doesn’t help, but that’s another odd coaching decision.

240

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

he Patrick Schulte rollercoaster continued today. It’s time to talk about the goalkeeper spot. I love Schulte for what he did in 2023 and 2024, but he’s so far from that goalkeeper now. Was very good on Wednesday but couldn’t play out of the back and didn’t make the saves necessary today.

160

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

Glad to see Sean Zawadzki play in the midfield for the final part of the game. He’s not a center back in a back four because he covers space, not men. This has to change.

140

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

I don’t understand the tactics. A 4-4-2 without proper center backs or wingers or a second forward? There's a reason teams don’t play 4-4-2 (you lose the midfield), but especially when you don’t have the players for it. Again, Rydström did this to be more secure. What’s the point now?

140

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

I can count on one hand the number of returning players who are putting in the effort necessary. Everyone else is playing out the season. So many new players who have no reason to have passion for the club.

330

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

Players didn't like it and they won. Now it’s a team that is out of it in MLS and the players are again playing like they don't respect what's going on.

140

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

Just putting it bluntly, this is a bad #Crew96 team. I think it’s clear now that Henrick Rydström was accurate with his assessment that this team had major issues that needed to be cleaned up.

As reported last week, #Crew96 is still working on the complicated deal for Santi Rodríguez as a new Designated Player. Have to sort through Botafogo’s financial issues and money owed to other clubs. Speaking to a Crew source, there is confidence that this deal will get done bsky.app/profile/patr...

This is a bad team, with no apparent belief or direction. Rydström was fired for lacking “Crew DNA,” but #Crew96 has resorted to the same boring play, a 4-4-2 that doesn’t fit the personnel and an inability to win games. I don’t see “the Crew” when I’m watching this team since the World Cup break.

2114

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Conceding from the corner, while bad defending… fine… I’d take a tie. It’s #Crew96 switching off for the winner that is inexcusable. That’s a “don’t bring your cleats tomorrow” mistake. It’s how your season ends.

131

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Great finish by Farsi and a great free kick by Gomes but the offense struggled after that, as it has since the World Cup break.

111

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

I don’t know why thinking what worked in Charlotte should be repeated by #Crew96 but a similar lineup was the choice. Leaving the MVP running into the box loosely marked was a problem.

122

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Was ready to post about a successful point for #Crew96 despite not playing particularly well, but that was an epic collapse. Don’t know what else to say. It’s been an awful week.

171

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

It's interesting how many attacking midfielders #Crew96 has gone after in this window. Putting a lot of faith in Tapia to score more than he has in his career, Martinez to find his form and (eventually) Abou Ali to come back healthy.

020

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

I asked a couple of club sources about this. The consensus is there is interest from #Crew96 in Rodriguez, but the deal would be complicated and nothing is imminent.

260

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

Ohio State hoped to have the starting offensive line figured out by last week, but preseason plans often don't go as planned. That doesn't mean the #Buckeyes aren't making progress in finding their "best five." 247sports.com/college/ohio...

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

Between the two injuries tonight and the loss, with a game against Nashville this weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised to look back and say this is the week the season was really lost for #Crew96. I’d say take a hard look in the mirror, but they’ve done that already this year.

131

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

Tactically, I have no idea what #Crew96 is trying to do. The 3-4-3 and fluid play has gone. Some of that may be new players but most of these guys have been here long enough at this point. Couldn’t score a goal (and only two shots on goal) against a team that had conceded 36.

120

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

Whatever “Crew DNA” was back after the coaching change is gone. This isn’t Leagues Cup where the Liga MX teams don’t care. You have to fight in MLS. There was none of that tonight by #Crew96. Watch the lack of effort to get the ball or close down on the second goal.

140

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

A complete lack of effort from the start for #Crew96. The giveaway on the Montreal goal was just the beginning. Players not making effort to win ball back or make tackles. Passes being played nowhere near teammates.

100

Patrick Murphy @patrickmurphy.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

#Crew96 rested players on Saturday for that? Losing to a team that hadn’t won an MLS game since early May is embarrassing enough. Doing it in that fashion is worse.
