It’s been 10 years since I started teaching #QCA at the Social Sciences Summer School at @usi.ch in Lugano. So rewarding to see how PhD students and researchers apply the method in creative ways to topics from across the social sciences. Many thanks to this year’s group!

Yes, it was surprising to see how similar the other fields were and how different business was. The sample includes studies with hundreds of cases (customers, firms, etc.). That could also be done in other fields, but it seems that the large-n QCA type is just not very common outside of business.

Social and political phenomena rarely have single-cause explanations. Qualitative Comparative Analysis #QCA offers a structured approach to causal complexity. On Sep 17, @isanet.bsky.social hosts a free virtual introduction to the method of #QCA - sign up here: buff.ly/fMK5s2L

What an impressive venue for #EUIA25. Thanks everyone for the superb attendance at our panel on European responses to Russia‘s war against Ukraine. This may have been largest crowd I‘ve ever had at a conference panel. Thanks Yf Reykers for organizing this and also for the constructive comments!

Yesterday I joined the protest, with many of my @vuamsterdam.bsky.social colleagues, on the #Malieveld against the outrageous budget cuts in Dutch higher education by the current government. Happy to see such a large crowd of 20.000 people protesting! 🟥 #WOinActie #doehetniet #Stopdebezuinigingen
