Definitely writing for the rubes (and his fans at the NYT). I am pretty certain that nobody subconsciously holds ideas they agree with to strict standards of criticism (i.o.w. Iron-manning) before accepting them.

Trump distorts coverage of 'Russia, if you're listening'
Says the media cut out his request of Russian hackers to find Hillary Clinton’s emails “right at the end so that you don’t see the laughter, the joke.”

Fun how everyone from man-on-the-street to talking heads to the 'royal WE' media themselves say how Democrats must improve their messaging. Meanwhile the media goes above and beyond to assist and sanitize the Republicans' press releases.

In other words, the current, "theory-free AI" finds all the instances in which A seems to cause B, but has no internal representation of *why* A causes B. This is true even when we know why A causes B!

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Yeah, the first thing I'd do if I were a benevolent dictator would be to make crypto-currency not illegal but without any monetary value within the US, its territories, and any foreign exchanges and to stick a high ID10T tax on any trading of the same.

Rahm Emanuel represents the last vestiges of dying, corporate do-nothing foolishness. He’s not a Democrat. He’s a wealthy, status quo strongly-worded letter in a suit. Anyone who listens to him is digging their own political grave.

Denials and self-justifications that the action was justified somehow are both coping mechanisms, sure. Neither confirm feelings of guilt, only of being confronted. Can't even say it is a recent development as such behaviour occurred in the past when it WAS socially acceptable.

While there are shady telehealth companies just as certainly as there are shady medical concerns (some go on to run successfully for state gov and Congress), I am leery of regulations offered by any Republican led agencies. Some examples of the bad faith shown can be found in telehealth for women

This is the same thing as interviews with red voting traveler claiming that "Portland and other blue cities are burnt-out hell holes" while no change in actual travel to blue cities can be shown. Even when looking at data between red voting areas and blue. They might even believe it but it's cover

At the same time pundits were talking up how "economic anxiety" was driving people away from Biden, all the indicators showed that consumers were confident in spending. Almost like any anxiety was being made out of whole cloth by the papers.

A picture of Elon Musk, via the London Economic. The quote says “If a monkey hoarded more bananas than it could eat, while most of the other monkeys starved, scientists would study that monkey to figure out what the heck was wrong with it. When humans do it, we put them on the cover of Forbes.“ – Nathalie Robin Justice.

This can get hilarious when works issued later show actual gender and the earlier translations have to be re-issued with the correction

One of the problems in translating Japanese into languages that use genders more heavily is the reliance on context. Thus a young girl that has a nickname containing 王, commonly 'king' instead of 'ruler', will get masculine pronouns applied instead of feminine, to the point of ignoring body shape.

And when the owners of the papers turned to the 'for-profit' model, dollars from advertising and non-paper portfolios skewed coverage. And they skewed even further when papers turned to 'News As Entertainment' as their Number 1 job

The newspapers leaned heavily on the cachet gotten from publishing the 'Pentagon Papers' and the scoop on Watergate for decades. Some journalists did continue to do their number 1 job, reporting breaking news. But the decay started during the Reagan years.

They wanted him back. The way that changes is to change the media considered reputable. That goes for a lot of institutions in the US. They leaned on their reputations long after they quit taking their responsibilities seriously. It didn't start with her, but I always think back to Judith Miller.

There are time that the spoken language needs some form of audible punctuation as well "I interviewed my mother, a prostitute, and a policewoman" gives different impression of one's mother depending on the removal of one or more comma's. One needs to lean heavily on audible clues to imply comma's

Neuroscientist here. I have studied the brain for 40 years. I make serious use of machine learning and AI in my research. Sam Altman is full of shit. These machines are not conscious, any more than a movie of a train coming out of the screen is a train. AI does remarkable things but isn’t real.
