These sweat bees don't sweat the small stuff! To understand why, feel free to give my interview from earlier this morning with Agnes on ABC Pacific Beat a listen. We discussed the recent publication from my co-authors and I, and (briefly) what this might mean for the future of native Fijian bees.

Fijian 'sweat bees' evolved to resist human environmental changes - ABC Pacific
Extreme weather and habitat changes can spell doom for many native animals including insects but it seems the bees in Fiji are built a little different.

✨New paper just dropped!✨ We looked at some demographic drivers in native Fijian bees. See my "graphical abstract" below, OR you can read the actual manuscript at: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

And here comes Patricia Slattery winning the best pollinator full length talk prize second place. Congrats!! I think she cheated by adding so many bee species #ASSAB2026

Vote for the bird dropping beetle! Discovered and described by an AES student, yes, it does look like that. If you looked like a fusion of bird poop and death via fungal infection, you might be a little less desirable of a snack and a bit harder for those autistic entomologists to find 😂

One week later, and the DOI is working! Check out our paper using network analyses to assess vulnerability for Fijian bees along an elevational gradient. doi.org/10.1002/ece3... You wouldn't bee-lieve how good I'm getting at completing side-projects and ignoring my thesis.

Network Assemblages of Elevational Niche‐Associated Diversity in Fijian Native Bees
Using network analyses, this paper demonstrates the aggregated distribution of Fijian Lasioglossum (Homalictus) bees in elevational niches. Combining the nestedness explored in this study with previo...
