Apparently, I live near a new subduction zone. We had three, or two*, earthquakes yesterday.

Sometimes I forget that barometric pressure changes are a migraine trigger for me, until I get hammered by something with no other reason and see a chart like this:

Spent the last 11-ish days driving around the Northwest US. One thing is clear: one of America’s greatest ideas is the National Park system.

Here’s a handheld night shot from a recent trip to San Francisco. Not a great shot but it was unplanned, I just found myself walking along the cablecar line and set up a few photos because the camera wa in my sling bag.

I participated again this year and for the first time finished the Irish Readathon. We had six book prompts to guide our reading of Irish authors. Here are the six books that I read.

Well, turns out they pointed us to the wrong seats on night one and we found out today. We’re at the other end of the row - not quite as close to the hoop, but not a blocking view and sitting right next to the team bench. So look for us next to 15th man/woman on each team :-)

I was one of three people chosen for tickets, plus travel and hotel. My wife hasn’t been feeling well so my daughter joined me on the weekend and we had a fantastic time.

I usually read lit fic, sci-fi or nonfiction in the <300 pg range. So it’s surprising me that this is next up, and I’m excited to see what the li h hype tail is about.

A hand holds a paperback copy of Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, the 40th anniversary edition. The cream-colored cover features a black-and-white photograph of two cowboys on horseback herding cattle across a grassy landscape, with a gold medallion emblem on the right. The book rests on the person’s denim-clad lap against a gray wood-patterned floor.

I very rarely read the acknowledgment for a book (unless I think I might be acknowledged :-)). These are the closing words from Stories are Weapons: Psychological Warfare and the American Mind by @annaleen.bsky.social . What a lovely way to end a very important and challenging topic.
A photo of a book page with a hand-drawn oval circling a paragraph. The highlighted text reads: “Thanks, finally, to my readers. I hope you find peace in whatever way you can: in public works, in the arms of your loved ones, or in stories of a better world.”

FASCINATING: I just had my first (apparently) AI-image and AI-video based bot follower on Strava. Not sure what the play here is, but it's similar to the follow-back accounts I see on other sites. But there's so little personal interaction on Strava I'm not sure how that would work.
background is a cloudy sky and drab hillside, with a bright colored young woman, fist in air, with a road bicycle. The image is clearly AI generated, or at least sloppily assembled.
