I've tabled a new cross-party parliamentary motion calling for a moratorium on new AI data centres. AI data centres consume vast amounts of energy and water, put pressure on local infrastructure and make our climate targets harder to meet. We cannot allow their unchecked expansion.
Graphic from Richard Burgon MP headed: “We need a moratorium on new AI data centres”.

It highlights his new parliamentary motion calling for a national moratorium while their environmental, public health and infrastructure impacts are fully assessed with local communities.

The East Havering Data Centre Campus (EHDCC) in north Ockendon would be one of the largest datacentres in Europe if approved by Havering council, using 218 hectares of green belt to run servers and data storage systems for AI and cloud computing.
